Amazon.com Review For day in, day out drilling and driving in wood, steel, or plastic, there might not be a better tool than Milwaukee's Magnum hole shooter. The aluminum/magnesium alloy on the gear case cuts down on the tool's weight, and the glass-reinforced nylon handle makes it a bit lighter, too--but let there be no doubts: when it comes to results, this is the same heavy-duty, ridiculously powerful, no-nonsense tool it's always been. The shooter is built with a stacked design--meaning the drill's interior parts stack on top of each other--which makes replacing parts (like a switch) much easier to do as the whole drill doesn't need to be taken apart. The handle is designed so you can hold it two ways--either pistol-grip or with the palm of your hand resting on the top back portion--making the drill an extension of your arm. As a result, you can really get behind it while still easily reaching the trigger with your fingers. And the finger slots add comfort. The shooter's top-quality chuck is a Jacobs (the best). It's a two-handed chuck, which, for the types of applications this drill is built for, is exactly what you want. The carbon brushes are also easy to access and change. One of our favorite new features on this tool is the long and superflexible Quick-Lok cord. If the cord gets cut or damaged, you simply unplug the damaged cord and replace it with the cord from any other Quick-Lok Milwaukee tool. If you're looking for a serious, long-lasting drill, you can't go wrong here. Milwaukee's hole shooter is a very high-quality tool that will serve you for years and years and years. --Dori Anvinson

Made in China March 20, 2010 M. Swaim (NC United States) When my imported drill died, I remembered the excellent Milwaukee hole shooter I used to use at a job long ago. I remembered the excellent service I've got out of a USA made Milwaukee circular saw and USA made Milwaukee Sawzall. My local big box store didn't carry the Milwaukee drill I thought I wanted, so I ordered it from Amazon thinking that I was going to get another fine product from Milwaukee. Well, right beside the line that says Milwaukee Brookfield IL is a line that says Made in China. I'm not at all happy that this renowned professional tool supplier has chosen to outsource product. It would be one thing if they were offering a lower cost line that was outsourced, but this 1/2" drill cost significantly more than the similar competition, and I bought it specifically believing that it was a quality USA made product. It's an import with a plastic housing not terribly dissimilar from other more obvious imported drills offering more features at lower prices available locally.
That said, it does seem to be well made and has already proved capable of easily running a 2 1/2" hole saw, a 3/4" ship's auger bit, and a 1 1/4" wood boring bit all through 2"x4"s and 2"x6"s, as well as plywood. It's also run a 1/2" metal bit through 1/4" mild steel without a hitch (though that did take awhile). Overall, I like the drill, but I wish that a company named after an American city, who built their reputation on American union labor wouldn't outsource to countries where their external costs are completely hidden or would at least be honest enough to put that in bold print on the external advertising. For me, this is the last Milwaukee anything, since even though I like the products, I don't trust the company any more. That's indicative of just how far we've fallen as a country, if even the brands named for our cities aren't made here anymore. Good buy Milwaukee. You were once a fine brand.
After some twenty years... March 3, 2010 Joe Sevy (Idaho USA) This is the same drill I bought some twenty years ago. From the day I bought it, to today; it has NEVER been a problem. It's never been repaired, it's never started making "that funny noise". Other than a little rust on the chuck, it's still the same drill I payed for. It's simply not possible to ask for a better value.
best that money can buy February 4, 2010 J. Hough (Austin, TX) this has everything you need in a corded drill; it is a beautifully engineered tool. I can't get over how it sounds (like a jet warming up)!
BEST DRILL FOR THE MONEY January 7, 2010 WOODCARVER (CLEVELAND, OH) Great drill with plenty of power. This is the drill to have when you want good variable speed control. Well built. We've had a similar model in our machine shop at work for well over 10 years. It gets beat on (lots of holes in steel plates, covered in oily chips,...) and i think about all's we've done is fix the trigger switch.
Best drill evar! December 28, 2009 J. Bussjaeger (USA) A heavy duty long lasting wonder drill! Oh, it is heavy too.
My old friend has had this model drill for 20 years. google it, you'll find pros who have 20+ year old versions of this drill.
The only downside is that it is now made in China instead of Mexico and before that it was made in the USA; you'll see the cost is lower now than it was long ago as a result. I don't know if quality has suffered, it seems fine to me.
