Wind it up and let it go...this timer is great for making sure plants and flowers are watered on time. Just remember to check the battery level every so often. I haven't found a problem with battery life being short, I just tend to forget to check it until watering stops. Good buy.

I bought five of these timers from Amazon. I loved the flexibility on watering times and the convenience of the manual timing. However, one only lasted a week before the valve would not work. The second one lasted three weeks before the electronic screen went blank and would not respond to new batteries (Most timers only take one 9 volt battery but these take two). Amazon credited my account and made it easy to return them both. I replaced both of these with Melnor 3015s which have worked okay so far. The third Orbitz lasted six weeks before its electronic screen went blank and would not respond to new batteries. This time I contacted Orbitz (six year warranty) since my 30 days to return it to Amazon had expired. Orbitz said they would ship me a new electronic controller (they come in two parts which allows you to program the timer while holding it in your hand and then slip it onto the on/off valve) in five to six days. Orbitz said that the electronic timer is normally reliable and that the on/off valve is more prone to fail. Unless you have an odd watering cycle where you are restricted to only watering certain days of the week I would recommend buying the less expensive Melnor 3015 because in my experience it has been more reliable.

I bought this item to water our front and side yards with a drip system. I really like the feature of being able to remove the controller from the valve. Ours mounted in a difficult place to access so it's great to be able to change the settings easily. The programming is not difficult and it seems to function as advertised.
Reliable Timer August 27, 2009

I have had this timer for about a week and it works great. Easy to set up, I like that the display can be removed for easy programing. It has been very reliable, and saved my garden while out of town.
My only concern it how well it is water proofed. The casing looks like it may fail in time.
Tips: Buy a Y connector, so you can attach another hose. You will need 2 9V batteries (not included)
