Amazon.com Product Review While this headlamp is designed specifically for night fishing, it could just as easily be used for other purposes, such as night hiking, camping, climbing, or even hunting. The TacTikka Plus is lightweight (78 g with batteries) and comfortable to wear, which is a good thing, since you're likely to be using it over longer stretches of time. Another great feature of the LED bulbs is that they are much more impact-resistant than incandescents: you're really going to have to smack it hard against something before you lose your illumination. Plus, LEDs are extremely energy-efficient. According to the manufacturer, you'll get functional illumination up to 150 hours on the included batteries, depending on which light levels you operate at. The TacTikka Plus has three intensity settings, allowing you to customize your lighting to match your needs. The optimum setting illuminates to 23 meters (note that the range will decline slightly over time as you run your batteries down). If you need more vision, you can switch to the maximum setting; if you need to look at a map, use the economic setting. Hunters and fishing enthusiasts will appreciate the pull-down red filter, which renders the light invisible to most game. It even has an emergency strobe if things get ugly. Overall a handy, well-designed product.--Josh Dettweiler What's in the Box Lamp with pull-down red filter, elastic straps, three AAA batteries

great night light, but not optimum for every runner November 13, 2009 Adam Gussow (Oxford, MS United States) I purchased this Petzl light on the basis of price and the generally high reviews. I'm a runner, and I purchased it for that specific purpose: night runs. More specifically still, I wanted a light that would help me run not so much on roads and darkened park paths as on one particular gravel path that heads directly into the forest here in Oxford, Mississippi (the so-called Whirlpool woods, with a trailhead directly adjacent to a Whirlpool manufacturing plant).
Although the unit works beautifully, as advertised, it just doesn't have quite enough light to make THAT sort of night running comfortable. It worked great in a somewhat more open setting, Lake Patsy Park, where there was a bit of ambient light here and there from streetlights, park lights, etc. It works really well on darkened (but not pitch-black) country roads. But when you're heading directly into a forest where deer are often found, and where there have been confirmed reports of coyotes and the occasional bobcat--well, I did that last night, and only made it one mile in before turning around and heading back. It's a fine little light, but some trail-running applications, I think, demand something more. The $40 I spent were NOT wasted; I'll use this baby for many less-demanding night-running applications. But I've decided to spring $100 for the Petzl RYO.
Worth the money November 11, 2009 TTMTT The Petzl E49P is lightweight and bright enough for close-in tasks. What I like about this is the fact that it uses only 3 AAA batteries, LED's and battery life. Like I mentioned before it's lightweight, and it does not cause any forehead discomfort for long extended use. I am very satisfied with this product. Just keep in mind that this lamp is good for "arms length" illumination. It can guide you through a dark forest, but don't expect it to perform like a SureFire and light up the whole hillside.
Headlamp comments October 16, 2009 K. Hanson (Minnesota) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The light is easy to use and lights up a wide area on the medium setting. My husband and I walk together before it's light in the morning and our streets have no street lights. We are able to walk side by side and only need the one light.
Fantastic Trail Light September 25, 2009 TrailRunR (Western Massachusetts, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am impressed! This is just a fantastic light for trail running. It's hard to think about those runs in the wood at night with a flash light. From the first time I used it is was a WOW. It provides ample light to run on the single track trails at night with multiple settings. It is comfortable on the head and easy to adjust or turn on and off. It's opened up a hole new world. PS: My daughter thought is was so cool to go running in the woods at night. It must be good!
A little expensive, but well worth it! September 10, 2009 Douglas Ross (Vancouver, WA United States) I purchased three of the Petzl Tactika Plus headlamps for myself, my son and father in law. I received them in short order from Amazon, and put mine to work and gifted the other two. I use mine daily for night trips to my detached garage/shop where the white illumination is excellent in lighting the path. On the low setting with the red flip down filter, close up tasks become effortless without disturbing a sleeping spouse.
I consider the adjustable angle essential. I have another brand with no angle adjustment, and it's useless for arms-length tasks. The light is never in the right spot or is too bright. Not so with the TP.
The integrated red filter is a must. No loose filters to keep track of, and it's always ready. I find myself not even noticing that it is on. I can just see in the dark!
Battery life is excellent.
My only complaint would be the battery cover: It's a little tricky to secure properly. Not THAT difficult, but something I wouldn't want to do in pitch black by feel alone. All in all, 5 stars!
