The stainless steel blade and buttcap deliver precision strength.View Larger. | The sheath features a carbide sharpener and a belt attachment. | Strong, Serrated Blade Can Be Used in All Situations Whether you need to cut firewood, build a shelter, or slice through a seat belt, the LMF II survival knife has you covered. It was designed to adapt to a wide variety of situations, so you'll never have to worry whether you have the right knife.Unique Buttcap Can Pierce Glass In addition to the blade end of the knife, Gerber also gave the LMF II a unique, pointed buttcap that is made of stainless steel. This heavy end can be used to pierce glass in the event you need to egress from a helicopter or other vehicle. The buttcap features a smart design that is physically separated from the tang in order to offer shock absorption when it's used as a hammer and also to prevent electrical shock. Smart, Versatile, Comfortable Design The LMF II features an overmolded handle, which helps prevent hand blisters and provides a secure grip. It is also designed with lashing holes, allowing it to be converted into a spear and extending its usability. The black color keeps you inconspicuous while you are out on night-time missions. Sheath Included with Built-In Sharpener A low-profile sheath is included and it features a built-in carbide sharpener. The stainless steel blade can withstand a ton of abuse, but if it ever gets damaged or needs sharpening, you won't be stuck out in the open with a dull knife. The sheath facilitates movement and attaches to a belt or MOLLE vest. Gerber's History of Ingenuity Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939. For more than half a century, Gerber Legendary Blades has been helping people fend for themselves. Gerber designs popular, dependable tools and knives along with other outdoor gear that helps users accomplish whatever tasks they may be faced with, promoting the lost art of self-reliance. High Quality November 21, 2009 Big-D (Lake Havasu City, AZ United States) I was looking for a great military style knife and every bit of research I did pointed right at the Gerber LMF II. Because I collect many different styles of knives, this fits the bill if you want a military/ survival type knife that will hold up to anything you put it through. Arrived very sharp, although I ran it through my ceramic sharpener and could now easily shave with it if so desired. And apparently, everyone that buys this knife feels the same as I do. Great product, extremely well made and high-tech looking. You can't go wrong with this Gerber.
You may want to check your local and state laws prior to ordering this knife. It's not a pocket knife and could potentially get you into hot water in the wrong situation.
not bad November 6, 2009 Leo Torbeck 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
its a good functional knife from a reliable US manufacturer, at a decent price. it comes in a box with a multi faceted sheath. it has good weight and cuts well. i did not give it five stars though, because i have yet to take it out on a trip.
perfect everything knife November 3, 2009 Douglas A. Sisk (arizona) the knife is a great knife. works as described. only issues with the knife is the simple fact that the velcro at the bottom just doesnt hold well after a lil over a year, and the combination of sand and overuse doesnt help. my solution to this was to simply wrap 550 paracord through the holes in some sort of decorative design, yet allowing enough slack in the back so that you can lift up on the webbing to access the sharpener. for the leg straps, i pretty much found them useless to me and just hook it up to the molle gear assembly for my backpack and that gives me the easy access as a ka-bar. another issue is it takes a bit of breaking to remove the tool with ease. it kind of sticks in the sheath. A GREAT SAFETY FEATURE, but not really acceptable to the persons who want convenience while unsheathing. this is a great knife and i am sure that gerber is going to make something that is even better. they always do. but for the time being, for a sheath knife that will hold up no matter what you put it through, this is the perfect buy. (make sure you research the areas where you buy it. if you do not buy from this site, many stores will inflate the price) i am military and have been issued this knife for combat in the desert. i have seen it for as low as 50.00 and as high as 130.
Great ruged knife October 25, 2009 Cody J. Engstrom (Cal U.S.A) Ive been in scouts my whole life so ive owned many difrent knives, this I have to say has been the best one yet, Ive cut wood, rope, cardboard, cloth and some copper wire with it and it takes it all. The shieth is a litle hard to deal with since its designed for a military type uniform not jeans and a leather belt, so I took all the velkro of and just tuck it under my belt with a cord around it. Great product!!
