It became evident that my garden had been seriously compromised by the Asian tiger mosquito. I live on Long Island, NY, midway from either shore. Every visit of three minutes or more left several bites. Yes, other methods --Mosquito Beater and canned foggers -- worked, but only for a short time and the mosquitos were well-entrenched. Personal repellants were not fully effective. I wanted to avoid broadly-toxic solutions --especially in a vegetable garden.
The Blue Rhino SkeeterVac SV3100, is solidly built, and it worked best for me when located in a least-windy spot --also the spot the mosquitos seemed to favor. When established in a spot for a week or so, you can actually see mosquitos swarm the unit. They're not all instantly getting stuck on the sticky striped wrapper or getting sucked into the trap, but evidence shows that many, eventually, get caught.
If you have the Asian tiger mosquitos, use the Lurex3 lures. They're frequently mentioned in tandem with the Mosquito Magnet, but they fit perfectly in the SkeeterVac SV3100, placed sideways. I caught on to the alternate lure, late in the season, so I can't give a comprehensive review.
I like that the Blue Rhino SkeeterVac SV3100 works night and day with no power cord, needs no maintenance except propane and lure replenishment, and it's safe, quiet and outdoor-hardy. A subtle flashing light attractant feature let's you know from a distance at night that it's still functioning. I wish I would have gotten it in the beginning of the first breeding season, rather than late in the season. I expect it to be a long-term solution.

I live in Northeast Florida so standing water is a common thing. I fact, our property boarders a swampy area. Needless to say, the Mosquito might as well be the state bird because of their numbers. I purchased the Skeetervac to help put a dent in the skeeter population. I purchased this model because it didn't require a 120v outlet. This unit is pretty expensive to maintain but it does work well. A 20lb LP cylinder lasts approx 21 days, give or take a day, and costs around $18.00 to refill. That is if you run it 27/7. A box of (2) tack sheets cost around $19.99 and you use one sheet a month. The bait attractant is supposed to be replaced once every 60 days and costs approx $17.00 I do feel that the tack sheets that fit around the unit could be better designed. They do a very good job trapping all kinds of biting insects but I often times have to pull it off of our dog because he accidentally brushed up against it. This unit will not eliminate your mosquito problem in all cases but you definitely will see a noticeable decline in their numbers in a few weeks. Remember, I live on the edge of a swamp. If you kill one, that's one more that can't reproduce. It is rather expensive to purchase and maintain but it was worth it to me. I now can go outside in the evening and not have to worry about making an appointment at the local blood bank for a transfusion. If you can get past the initial cost and up-keep you will not regret this purchase.

I've had my unit for a month now and there is a noticable reduction in the number of mosquitos in my yard. The 4th of July around my fire pit at night was mosquito free.

I really, really wanted this product to work. Our intown neighborhoods in Atlanta, GA have tons of mosquitos - it just makes it impossible to enjoy being outsie from May - September. I tried every possible location and set up and after 2 weeks I maybe had 5-6 mosquitos in the trap. Mind you, this is in an area where I get swarmed by mosquitos if I walk outside. I could catch more than this machine by just sticking some double sided tape against a tree. The only reason I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 is that their customer service team was very helpful and walked me all of the trouble-shooting methods. Unfortunately none of them worked. I am getting a full refund. Unfortunately, I am out $100 on propane tanks and expensive "lures". Skip this product and just spray some insecticide on your yard every week - that is what I am going to do.

I have no doubt that this works for some people, depending on the species of mosquito, but here in North Idaho it is worthless for mosquitos. I have tried everything for a month now, and I estimate that it has captured maybe two dozen mosquitos, and most of them on the sticky trap. The screen captures a few gnats, mostly. On the other hand, it has captured nearly every other type of flying insect on the sticky trap part - especially noseeums. In fact there wasn't a square centimeter that didn't have several bugs stuck to it after the first week. But I bought it to control mosquitos and I wish I could have my money back! The breed of mosquito in my area appears to be the culex pipiens, and the little buggers are completely unimpressed with my skeetervac sv3100.
