Great concept but DOA November 3, 2009 Bill (Nashville, TN) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I thought that this item was an awesome concept and was looking forward to using it this week on an eight-hour roundtrip train ride as backup power for both my iPod Nano and my BlackBerry 8900, but after waiting absolutely forever for Amazon to ship it to Seattle from Kentucky via the slowest shipping method known to man, it was dead on arrival. When plugged into my computer for charging, the charging LED simply flashes green a few times then stops, which the manual says means "no batteries installed or batteries installed incorrectly." I tried using it with both a set of Sony rechargeable AA batteries that I bought from Amazon as well as a set of Energizer rechargeable AA batteries that I already had - installed correctly, of course - and both produced the same result. I also tried plugging it into a totally different computer with the same result, and I tried using a spare mini USB charging cable that I had lying around instead of the mini USB charging cable that came with the device - you guessed it, same result. I really wanted this to work, but back to Amazon it goes, and as always, I'm sure Amazon will send me an e-mail inquiring about my "excessive return history" even though, once again, I've received a defective item from them and the return is not my fault.
Below my expectation October 10, 2009 Machine will be able to learn (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this one to use as an emergency for my Nokia N97. However,
(1) It does *not* charge N97 at all, no matter what kind of battery I put into it.
(2) I also tried to charge a HTC Touch Pro 2. It can charge this phone. However, the unit become super hot after about charging 20 or 30 min using 4 AA alkaline battery from [...]. Using a high-drain rechargable battery may solve the heating problem.
Beware of MELT DOWN! October 6, 2009 J. Worthen (Santa Monica, CA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The charger worked fine for a few months but then one day it started to smell like burning plastic. I shut it off and it hasn't worked since. I was using it with rechargeable batteries - Sony 2500mAh Ni-MH. The batteries are fine but the Tekkeon Charger is toast. Don't waste your money. Wish Apple would sell a battery pack that really delivers. I've yet to see one that looks worthwhile.
Fantastic little charger September 27, 2009 Todd W. Homan-jones (Washington, DC) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Here's what I use it for:
USB Battery Charger (Charge from computer or car w/ adapter)
Backup power for iPhone/PSP/DS/Garmin Nuvi 255w
Combined with a LaCrosse BC-9009 and a dozen Eneloops, I can recharge on the go, and have 24 hours of iPhone movies/apps.
It's about 1/5 the price of other iPhone field chargers, but does so much more.
Great Buy.
great back up battery September 22, 2009 Wafin (Goleta, CA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great unit to have for a backup battery device.
I have put in enerloop batteries and it does charge them inside the unit.
I've tested it with my Ipod touch and was able to get 2 full recharges but then I was back home and was able to use the ac power. It showed 2 of the 3 lights for the battery meter after the 2 full charges with the eneloop batteries.
I keep it on me at all times in my jacket because it is so usb friendly almost anything with a mini usb plug can be charged up.
Highly recommended as a backup device when traveling since it is so small and you can always buy extra AA batteries if in a pinch.
Hope this helps!
