1 out of 5 stars Junk   November 17, 2008
M. (New York City, NY USA)
Don't waste your money on this piece of junk. I was pretty disappointed with the cheap plastic construction, and had the same problems as other reviewers with the unit's actual interior temperature being warmer than the LED reading. But at least it more or less did the job of cooling. That is, it did the job for about ten months and then died. It comes with a one year warranty so I called the customer service number, explained the situation and was told that since my wine cooler was still under warranty there was "no problem". The customer service agent took down the address that I wanted "to use for shipping", and told me to mail a check for $35. I was also told that when the check arrived, I would receive a confirming call from the "warranty department". Assuming that the $35 was to cover shipping and handling for a replacement unit, I sent off a check. Two weeks later my check had been cashed but I had received no call, so I called again. Once more I was assured that my cooler was under warranty, and that I should receive a call from the warranty department within a few days. The next week I got a call informing me that I needed to ship my defunct cooler to Buffalo, NY to the repair facility. It turns out that the one year warranty is for "materials and workmanship", but there is only a 90 day warranty on labor. The $35 was to cover "anticipated labor". Add to that the cost of packing and shipping this item to Buffalo and back, which was my responsibility, and we're getting pretty close to the cost of a new cooler. At least they are returning my $35.

1 out of 5 stars pretty but disfunctional   November 9, 2008

It took this little beauty out of the box, set it on my counter, put in a tub of cool water and ran the unit for 24 hours. The lovely display says "49F", the actual temperature of the water after 24 hours of "cooling" is 61 F. I have returned the unit.

As previously stated - it is big. But works as advertised. I put it on a small table in the corner of our dining room. Perfect!

3 out of 5 stars Temperature Indicator Doesn't Work   October 6, 2008

The Igloo Wine Cooler works well except for the temperature indicator. The digital display reads lower than the actual temperature. We found this out by putting a thermometer inside the cooler.

1 out of 5 stars Are Previous Reviewers Checking Inside ?   September 23, 2008

In early-September '08, I ordered three after reading the many good reviews. I opened one and placed 8 pre-chilled bottles in it and set temp to 57F. Yes, the display did "count down" from room temperature [what it was in the shipping box] to the 57F setpoint in about 6 hours. But when I checked the three "restaurant grade" thermometers I had placed inside, I found all were reading 68F. And my wine was noticeably WARMER than when it went in the "cooler". Thinking I got unlucky and opened a defect on my first try, I did the same thing with the other two units. Remarkably, they also exhibited the same malfunction". [Tech Service told me to "reset" the controllers ... a 4-step, 8-hour process] ... same result on all three units. One last test: lowered set point to 43F and let it run for 24 hours => lowest internal temperature reached was 59F.

My conclusion ... the design is NOT CAPABLE of developing an internal temperature below 59F [all tests were done in my kitchen at a room temperature of 71F]. Either the controllers are ALL BAD or their temperature pick-up point is external to the storage area.

Definirely a "NO BUY".
