Excellent November 19, 2009 brentp Pick these up from Amazon. Wow - is what I should say to start. I'm getting older, . . . and had to move a washer and dryer. First time, my son helped me and frankly, he thought these were a joke - lets just grab onto them and lift he said. After we got first one airborne, he was convinced these things are cool and really work, . . . he very quickly changed his tune.
Then, my wife and I had to move them to a 2nd floor. We were easily able to move the washer and dryer up the flight a stairs (with a 180 degree direction change mid way). Very tight corners on the stairs. Once the object is up, very light on you and easy to control.
Wish I had these years ago to save my back. Enjoy!
Not for Stairs November 16, 2009 Andrew Kappes (Ventura, CA USA) I bought these to move out of my Apt on the 3rd floor. The goal was to move as much as possible with my wife, and I thought this would allow us to move all the furniture.
First, I tried a 300 lbs Sony 36" TV with my brother-in-law. The strap just slipped right out from under it as we stood up. I gave the Shoulder Dolly the benefit of the doubt, as the TV has all the weight in the front.
The next day my wife and I tried to use it on a basic rectangle TV stand. We put the strap under the unit, and stood up. No problem. We walked towards the stairs, and it was fine. As soon as we started down one stair, the strap slipped and the stand fell to the ground. I put the Shoulder Dolly back in the box and sent it back today.
In my opinion, this this is not reliable to use going down stairs. It may work fine for 1 story moves, but it's not worth the risk of it slipping and breaking your furniture.
Excellent investment - way better than the forearm version November 6, 2009 Ramkumar Balaraman (Boston, MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a 1989 36-inch Sony trinitron. Its a great tv, but at over 200lbs, a back-breaker to move.
The first time we moved it, I used the forearm version (uhaul-branded) that I borrowed from a friend. I thought it helped, but the guy on the other end who was helping me carry the tv was never comfortable with it. No adjustment could make him NOT feel like it was digging into his arms. So we ended up carrying the TV without it.
The second time we moved it, we had 2 flights of stairs to carry it up. I bought this hoping it would better, and boy was it better! Its a world of a difference compared to the forearm version. Carrying the tv was a breeze this time - no sweat. The strap is VERY wide and feels very strong and sturdy. Just make sure that your back is always straight, that you only bend your knees, and that the shoulder straps are pushed back and not digging into your neck - and you're all set.
My spouse generally can't lift over 40lbs by herself, so I've always called one of our friends when I needed to move the tv. With these straps, she and I carried a wooden bed-frame package weighing 160lbs up the stairs to our apartment from ikea. She's been bragging about it to everyone we know ever since :)
Shoulder Dolly is a back saver November 4, 2009 W. McCain I've used this product once and found it to do everything it's supposed to do. I loaned it to a friend who is moving to another house. He and his 'moving buddy' want to purchase one. I helped move a washer, dryer, and an upright freezer. No problem....and no backache.
Amazon also has the best price of anywhere I looked, even the 'discount' hardware stores.
works great! October 30, 2009 W. Wesen (Twin Cities, MN USA) The straps work exactly as I hoped they would. This should be a staple in every household.
