Video can be misleading October 13, 2009 Sal Port (Pa.) I watched the video and thought this would be a helpful product for handling sheets of plywood by myself. By no means am I the weakest person nor the strongest but I started with 3/4 inch plywood and it's not as painless to carry as it appears. Apparently on the video they are really strong or its 1/4 inch plywood. The product did work and I will continue to use it but with the heavier plywood I found myself bracing my wrist with my other hand. I have not tried it on drywall but I'm sure it will make carrying drywall easier by oneself.
Excellent for handling sheet goods September 19, 2009 Mark D. Schnittman (Rocky Point, NY USA) I am an experienced DIYer, and I also have a bad back in addition to recently hurting my wrist. I recently undertook a major renovation of a room in my home, and the weight of the plywood, MDF, and sheetrock wasn't agreeing with my 44 year old body. I originally purchased a panel carrier that supported the panels from the bottom, and it worked well enough. But the weight during the lifting and carrying was still on my lower back, which is a no-no for me. The lifting of the panels with the single handle was also aggravating my wrist injury, so I looked for another solution. I saw a review of this carrier in one of my woodworking magazines, and bought it hoping that the design would make handling 100 lbs panels easier with less chance of injury. This thing is excellent -- the heavier the object, the harder it grabs onto it. The design allows you to lift it without bending over -- good for my back. The handle is nice and thick, with a rubber-like coating for a firm grip. The jaws that clamp your material are also coated with a non-slip material. Well worth the money -- I wish I had bought this one in the first place.
slippery slope September 16, 2009 40 years building (Chelsea, VT) Good idea....but not tested enough..!
the gripper tends to slide off typical sheathing products such as
the 4' x 8' "Advantec" & "Grant" products.
These sheathings are fast becoming the standard for side wall sheathing
and also roofs as well as sub floors
I do NOT recommend this product....money wasted..!
Gorilla Gripper is a back saver September 6, 2009 S. Willis (Florida Keys) I stumbled on the Gorilla Gripper as I was searching for other construction items. This thing really makes carrying plywood easy. I no longer have to lift and twist to carry sheets, so my back is feeling a heck of alot better. I hope to rig something so I can use the Gripper to hoist sheets onto the roof of my latest project.
Dad Loves this thing... July 6, 2009 Chopper (Kansas) I purchased the Gorilla Gripper for my dad. He seen a neighbor using one and would not quit talking about it. He is currenly using it to work on his honey do list around the house. He hasn't complained and he is planning on buying another for my husband and a second for him.
