Don't buy January 14, 2010 D. Burr (Florida) I am on my 2nd factory repair warranty arm. I wouldn't buy this brand again if you paid me to. Once again the arm is acting up, open/close part way, then all the way, then opens itself up all the way automatically. Technical support is just screwy. I was on the phone with one tech. person for over 25 minutes. We were disconnected. When I called back I was once again put in the waiting list. The 2nd tech. support had me try totally different things. When I asked why are you telling me to do different things the other person as we were close to getting it working (or so it seemed at 25 minutes), I was told each tech. person has they own trouble-shooting style. WTF? After 40 minutes on the phone with this guy it "seemed" to be working. When he looked up my name in the system, Mighty Mule had NO record of me! There is no way I can prove the arm is still under warranty even though it was just Feb. 2009. We also discovered the automatic gate locked failed to work anymore. I find it too ironic that the arm started acting up and not functioning correct AND the gate lock doesn't work any more either. I tried to call technical support back again and they hung up on me.
Go buy a different brand. This company is nothing but trouble both in the quality of their products and their tech. support staff.

The gate opener worked fine for 2 years and then the motor wore out. The manufacture, GTO, does not sell the motor as a part, They want you to replace the complete opener. The motor is nothing special, a frame 550 12volt motor which should cost about $5.00. If you need a gate opener to last more than 2 years, buy a comercial grade opener it will save you money in the long run.

I live in a rain forest. This gate opener is supposed to be water proof. It isn't. Nothing but trouble.
Addendum: After two nightmarish years with this device, it finally died - thank goodness. I just looked at a replacement (Zareba) and am impressed with the design essentials that company employed. Simple things like waterproofing the electronics. Why Mighty Mule couldn't have implemented such design baffles me. And customer support at Mighty Mule? What customer support is the real question!

This is a really convenient item when it works. Every time we have a lightening storm it blows out the wireless connection on the board. The hard wired openers still work but not the wireless. Their tech support is useless. You wait 30 minutes each time to reach them and they have no idea what is wrong. I am on my third board in one year. Each time it is the same conversation. I wait 30 minutes online and they tell me my receiver is broken. I replace the receiver and it still doesn't work. I call again and wait 30 more minutes online for them to tell me to send the board back to them to check it out. I never hear from them so I call again and wait 30 minutes online to reach someone who puts me on hold for 30 minutes to find the return only to tell me they are backed up for weeks. After I throw a fit they tell me the item can not be repaired and I need a new board. Three times in a year this has happened. I have asked the Tech department what I can do to help prevent this problem and they have never answered (which tells me they have no idea). During the winter when there were no thunder storms it was great but during the spring time and summer it is a head ache and now that the warranty is out it is going to be an expensive head ache. It is broken again (same issue) and it is now sitting on the ground beside my gate. I have sent an e-mail three times to their Tech department asking how much a replacement board is and I have not heard back yet. I am just about ready to rip everything out.

I have had a Mighty Mule Gate Opener in operation for Eleven years.... and have had some adjustments challenges etc over the years but got good technical support from GTO and I think the main motor just finally went bad and I plan to replace the whole opener with a new one.... I think eleven years is enough service to expect from this reasonably priced item which has suffered some repeated abuse over the years.... I'm happy with the product.
