First I'll qualify myself as a Mechanical Engineer. I demand quality in everything I purchase.
I was very disappointed when I opened the box to find that this product is made of a very hard plastic. Which makes me think that it will be very easy to damage by cracking. I did not see if this material was UV resistant.
I did spray paint it to match my vinyl siding. The paint did adhere with no problem.
Only time will tell how long this item will last.

I was having a problem with birds getting into the dryer vent. Installed this vent cover and the problem is no more. I suspect this also has a better seal then the standard horizontal trap door vent types. I used caulk around the base of the head as well to keep in place and to better seal it from outside air. There is also a small hole on top of the inside cup that I covered with caulk to make a good air seal. Now I do not have the back draft in my dryer when it is off.

This is a great dryer vent. It replaced the vent I had installed 13 years ago of the same type where the four seasons in the Northeast finally took it's toll and the vent top cracked and broke apart and it needed to be replaced.
Keeps out the cold and animals and allows unimpeded flow from the dryer.

Can't imagine why anyone would install the junk at the hardware store instead of one of these. Well made and works great. It blocks wind, lets dryer exsaust out,and seems well made. I installed it about 3 weeks ago and have had a couple of winter storms since with no issues.
