| Customer Reviews: Attic ventilator October 12, 2009 Torleif Gundersen (Melbourne, FL USA) I installed this gable vent shutter with the Ventamatic CX1500 fan.
It is a pretty involved project, but with some good planning and elbow grease, I did it in one day.
I started by measuring the inside wall and building a frame that would fit in between the rafters on the wall. I had to cut the center 2x4 to fit the frame inside. After drilling holes in all four corners, it was pretty easy to cut out the square from the outside with a concrete blade on a Skil saw.
After painting the shutters the same color as the wall, it went on easy and looks great.
I had the frame, plate with round hole and fan, all assembled in my garage before anything was installed. So now it was easy to install the plate and the fan on the inside.
The wiring should be done by a professional. I did it myself, but unless you are absolutely sure you know what you're doing, don't do it!
After a little adjusting, the fan now shuts off at about 85 degrees in the evening. The max temperature in the attic is now about 10 degrees lower than it used to be.
Still waiting for the first power bill to see any real saving, but it looks good.
Cheaply constructed, but works well once installed August 10, 2009 Brian J. Johnson (Pittsburgh, PA USA) The frame on this is flimsly plastic. The louvers themselves are thin metal. During the installation and handling in the shop, I had a hard time keeping all of the louvers in place. Installation was easy though and haven't had any problems since it's been installed.

It's surprising that this shutter is made by the same company that makes the Ventamatic CX1500 attic fan. The fan is top notch, while the shutter is very flimsy and cheaply made. Also the pieces that hold the louvers fall out. Don't waste your money buying this shutter. I had to throw away the one I bought and buy a different one from Home Depot.
Save yourself disappointment. Don't buy this shutter.

What a pice of junk. The frame is thin flexible plastic, possibly a PVC, and the louvers are very thin aluminum which pivot on plastic nubs. It arrived with three louvers loose in the box with the nubs snapped off. The vendor un-charged my card with no questions.
Had it arrived intact I would have returned it anyway as it is substandard for my application. I would rate it zero stars but Amazon apparently requires at least one.
