Amazon.com essential video DeVito and Schwarzenegger as fraternal twin brothers? Hey, why not? This delightful 1988 comedy by Ivan Reitman--about genetically designed twin siblings who discover each other at the age of 35--works out just fine, thanks largely to great chemistry between the two stars. Despite a certain amount of rough action and tension, the film really gets a lift from the palpable innocence Reitman develops, and the female costars (Chloe Webb and Kelly Preston) bring some interesting texture of their own. This is a film that walked the tightrope of a high concept and completely succeeded. To see how easy it is to stumble in a similar situation, check out DeVito and Schwarzenegger in Reitman's Junior. The DVD release has a full-screen presentation, optional French and Spanish soundtracks, optional Spanish subtitles. --Tom Keogh

Over-rated 80's Comedy August 6, 2009 K. Hookey I've never understood the appeal of this film. So Schwarzenegger is in a comedy...yes, I suppose at one time that was a novel concept. But it's just not very funny. The highlight for me was a shot of Arnold's face after a sexual encounter. Aside from that, DeVito does a good job playing a slimeball, with some good lines and a rather funny scene where he is supposed to be running away from the bad guys...but due to his tiny legs and the suitcase he's carrying, he can do little more than waddle.
I just can't recommend it. It's really light-weight fare. If you want to see a REALLY funny Schwarzenegger movie, see "True Lies". That is definitely a classic.
Twins is a 4 out of 5 Star DVD July 29, 2009 alex fryling (erie pa) When I first saw this movie for sale at fye for $5.99 I knew I had to pick it up Arnold and Diveto in the same movie starring it had to be good and boy was it good. Both actors delivered here as it seemed they had great chemistry with each other. The plot behind the story was they were twin brothers and didn't know it. Once they reunited with each other they were on a search to find their real mother. Diveto and Arnold deliver in his movie if you can find it for a good price I recommend that you pick it up four out of 5 stars for me.
The Ultimate Male vs. The Ultimate Meatball. July 23, 2009 Sid the Elf (North Pole) For the many many fans of the world's greatest B reviewer since the Jackie Robinson of the genre, Joe Bob Briggs, get ready for a few weeks of stretches. Usually, we stick to the letter of B law, but we are going to be going outside the box a little more. This starts with Twins. This is a film that was very successful, even topping the box office for a few weeks upon its release in 1988. Normally, we would never touch such a movie, but this one had a lot going for it. Most notably, Arnold, and the very basic principle of B, it was loaded with unintentional comedy.
Mostly everyone has seen Twins, or at least knows the story. Arnold was the product of a genetic experiment to create the perfect man. Devito was all the crap that was left over. They end up finding each other, their mom, and love. They also fall into some cash through the Les Diamond-like business practices of DeVito and start a consulting firm. Sid found himself making fun of roughly 85% of this movie, which is a great ratio even for us.
Needless to say, Sid totally dug this flick. How could we not? It was Arnold! The scenes in which Devito, a 4'11 long lost Sid relative from the North Pole area, acted like a big timer were priceless. They were all in the same class as the scene when Arnold was walking by a movie theater, sees a Rambo poster, then flexes his massive guns and laughs at Sly's puniness. Speaking of Arnold's guns, look for a review of Pumping Iron (25th Anniversary Special Edition) from Sid soon. As for Twins, we would have and did enjoy this one many times in our youth. Many times. In fact, let's get it with some drive-in totals:
1 wager on weather or not DeVito's Mustang is avalible on ebay
1 huge meal consumed by Arnold including a hot dog, pizza, amd a gyro
2 guest stars: by the Seinfeld Marble Rye Lady and David Caruso
1 Elf stunt double getting thrown through a window
2 car phones (80's movie staple)...
...and, most importantly, 4 soundboard lines.
Not in widescreen. February 20, 2009 E. Diaz (Los Angeles, CA, USA) This copy is in letterbox (4:3 aspect ratio), not in widescreen format. If you are looking for that movie theater look I would try and find another version of this movie. The quality of the picture is also not great but it's something I would expect from a movie this old.
