Amazon.com This is the best of the three movies about a boy and his killer whale. Beautifully photographed, it's worth watching just for the heavenly British Columbian scenery and underwater photography. It helps that the story is well thought out and more expertly executed than the first two films in this series. Jason James Richter, the little boy from the previous Free Willy flicks, is given a credible role as a research assistant trying to understand why whale populations are decreasing. His story parallels that of the son of an illegal whaler who knows his father is involved in criminal activity and is particularly disturbed by the moral ramifications. Unlike the pro-environment characters in other movies, the fishermen in this story are given a valid point of view, as they are facing very real economic hardships due to the overfishing of the oceans. This plot tangent is given equal footing with the friendship between the two key boys in the story. It all gets a little too corny, but overall this is recommended as a family picture. --Rochelle O'Gorman

The "Free Willy" series should have stopped with #2 January 13, 2009 lucretia mcevil (Cincinnati, OH United States) I found the Free Willy 3 movie to be a bit too much. I enjoyed the first 2 but enough is enough. Glad I ordered this for my niece and not myself. Had no problem with the DVD itself; just not impressed with the material.
SOLID FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT, NOT BAD FOR THE THIRD FILM IN THE SERIES! August 31, 2008 ! MR. KNOW IT ALL ;-b (TRI STATE AREA) When you get to the third film in any series there is usually a drop in quality. 'Free Willy 3' is surprisingly good for a second sequel. the story of whaler's hunting Willy and his family is the most exciting film of the series. This film shows some character development as the whale hunters aren't shown as 1 dimensional characters. The DVD transfer is very good and I rate this film 3 stars.
Free Willy 3 August 8, 2006 S. Oxford (Santa Clara CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Free Willy 3, is a great follow up to the first two movies.
My oldest Son Derek, enjoys watching the first one so much,
after a hundered times or more, its time to move on. So
I bought Free Willy 2, then this latest one Free Willy 3.
I the parent, injoyed the movie alot but for my son I think
it was a little bit hard for him to watch, the harpooning of
whales I think bothered him, he see's Willy as his friend,
and is very hard to see a friend get hurt. I still think if
your a Free Willy fan you need to have the hole set. Bring on
Free Willy 4.
Regards
Dad
Not as Good has the first 2,but still a great movie April 12, 2004 Chase (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this Free Willy the worst out of the series, not because the movie was bad,it was good but there was some parts in this movie that peaple didnt like. The little kid kinda messed up the bond between Willy and Jesse. But this was still a great movie, what an ending this movie had,Willy becomes a daddy, shocking ending to a great series.
Bad Ending to a Great Series March 30, 2003 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ok, this was a great movie, as all the Free Willy movies were, it is just unfortunate that they didn't know this would be the last. If they knew, I'm sure it would have been so much better. I loved the Free Willy series, and when I learned they lost their budget and there would be no more, I look at the ending of Free Willy 3 and think, "This great series is over for eternity, and the last lines were, "Well I think we should call him Max" ?". Truly unfortunate. Anyways, this flick is aimed at an older audience. There are unsuitable features in this one, unsuitable for young ones, but makes the older ones happy.
