Product Description Slapstick black comedy about a man (reynolds) who finds that he hasnt much longer to live and has bungled his attempts at suicide. Studio: Tcfhe/mgm Release Date: 02/06/2001 Starring: Burt Reynolds Sally Field Run time: 100 minutes Rating: R Director: Burt Reynolds/james Best
Amazon.com Burt Reynolds directed and stars in this dark comedy, which suffers from diminishing returns the longer it goes on. He plays a fellow who discovers that he has a terminal illness and wants to spare himself and everyone he knows the seemingly unavoidable end of a painful malady. So he decides to kill himself. But he proves surprisingly inept at it and after several tries winds up in a mental hospital, where he meets a cheerfully homicidal inmate (Dom DeLuise). The suicide stuff was handled more imaginatively and with greater flair in Harold and Maude; the film has very few real jokes and only comes to life twice: when Burt tries to confess to an easily impressed young priest (Robby Benson) and when the lunatic DeLuise is onscreen. --Marshall Fine

I'd watch again... October 30, 2009 rcassis (Seattle, WA USA) And I don't watch many movies twice...
I'm not a big BurtR fan, but I really enjoyed the premise. The opening scenes were really funny. All the way through the confession. After that it got a little dark and slow while Burt sets his affairs in order. (Though there are some funny elements in this part.) Fortunately, after he hits the mental ward he encounters DomD and the enjoyment resumes. A lot of great cameo's throughout.
And the opening music is the the theme for my career... "It's another fine mess you've gotten into..."
The End June 24, 2009 I had never seen this movie. It was recomended and it is a very good movie. It is all about human nature. It makes you laugh and cry. I recomend it to anyone who needs and escape and really go back to the basics of human nature and feelings.Buy this movie.

Mike's Review of The End June 17, 2009 M. Walsh (NJ) Quite a humorous potrayal of subject that many seem to dread.
Both Burt and Dom give good performances.
Somewhat irreverent, yet death is something that all need to come to grips with at some point in their lives.
Let's face it, we're all terminal.
The big questions are to decide whether this life is all there is, or is there life after death and if there is, where are we going to spend it.
funny but unnecessary parts February 15, 2009 R. R. Obrien (Ohio USA) Had seen this show years ago and remembered how funny it was. I didn't remember parts of it that I would prefer to have edited out. Many times it seems that movies have sex and foul language included just for the purpose of having them there when they aren't needed and serve to take all "class" out of the story. This could be a really funny & enjoyable family movie it it were edited. It's really a shame. That's Hollywood for ya.
