LUGOSI ESTATE VERSION!!!!! May 3, 2009 larryj1 (az) This is the ONLY version to have. It was like watching a whole new film. The Devil Bat has never looked so good. Stay away from all others, especially the colorization garbage. The special features are fantastic!
Devil Bat - In Color April 16, 2009 Ricardo B. Larrier The Devil Bat - In Color is a very nice improvement on this oldie but goodie. The quality of the print is good and the colorization is good to above average. As for the movie itself, it is one of the better efforts by poverty row studio PRC. The story is presented is pretty basic but interesting and evidently it was good enough that they reused it a few years later in the "Flying Serpent" (1946) by scratching out giant bat and penciling in flying serpent into the script. All in all a good movie at a good price with fast delivery to boot. Not a bad deal and I highly recomend it for all old film lovers.
Bela rules April 2, 2009 Herb Salisbury This enhanced version really makes the movie enjoyable. The old versions were so bleached out that it was hard to watch. Bela is really a bad boy in this and you can tell he is having fun doing it. The colored version is alright, but it has faded colors like Turner color. The new black and white is really done well. "The corpse vanishes" is also redone by this company and it is in as great shape as well. For the price, you cannot beat this movie if you love Lugosi as I do. Legend Films did a fine job of remastering.

Very good film !! February 28, 2009 J. CALDERON (MEXICO CITY) Very good film made by our loved actor, master of terror and suspense Mr. Bela LUGOSI. So good story, so good performance. I prefere this kind of classic horror films, more than modern ones even without so many artificial and technical features. Congratulations for this release made in color, it is magnificent !!!
Big Bat February 13, 2009 Michael Patrick Boyd (Waukesha, WI) The Devil Bat is one hour and nine minute long and was released on December 13, 1940. Bela Lugosi plays Dr. Paul Carruthers who invented perfume years ago and is not repeating the benefits from it. So to get back at the people he creates this over sized bat to attack certain people he has giving an experimental aftershave. One by one begin to die. Newspaper man, Johnny Layton and photographer One Shot Maguire come to Heathville to solve the murder and get a story. Johnny figures out that Dr. Paul Carruthers. He sets a trap for Dr. Carruthers to get him to confess. In the end Dr. Carruthers is killed by his own bat. The movie is high on suspense. The bat in the movie looks like something out of a Halloween catalog. Still this is a good movie to watch and gets a B.
