All Marjorie (Alley) ever wanted was to become a writer: like Sylvia Plath...only happy. But she put her dream aside to marry a doctor (Bakula)...before discovering that he has no bedside manner! Unhappy unfulfilled and decidedly unsatisfied she attempts to find bliss in a hotel room with a handsome stranger. But when the man she checks in with checks out for good leaving behind only a smiling corpse and a shocking identity Marjorie will have to cover up the body and the affair...or she may as well write off the rest of her life!System Requirements:Running Time: 87 Min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY Rating: PG-13 UPC: 027616884534 Manufacturer No: 1004374
Amazon.com Carl Reiner, who paired with Steve Martin in The Jerk, takes another rewarding gamble in Sibling Rivalry, matching comic actress Kirstie Alley with a screwball tale of mistaken identities, three sets of siblings, and a pesky corpse. Alley plays a neglected wife encouraged by her sister (Jami Gertz) to have a fling; when she does precisely that with a handsome stranger (Sam Elliott), he not only dies in bed but turns out to be a long-lost brother-in-law. Further complicating matters is a salesman (Bill Pullman) who thinks he inadvertently killed Elliott's character, plus a lot of doctor jokes (Carrie Fisher plays a bullying gynecologist married to a protologist) and a deadpan cop (Ed O'Neill). The screenplay's comic complications take a little too long to reach critical mass, but when they do, Reiner masterfully controls the essential screwball timing and Alley, Pullman, Gertz, and screen veterans John Randolph and Frances Sternhagen thoroughly deliver. --Tom Keogh

THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY August 25, 2009 S. Murray (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) I thought this was really funny. I love Kirstie ALley's acting and she was really good in this movie.
I ordered it because someone told me about it.
Bill Pullman was good in it too.
Simply funny, bust your gut comedy! August 18, 2008 A. Humenik (United States) Hilariously funny! I never tire of this movie and have seen it a record 32 times to date. The plot reeks of the worst case scenario with regards to marital infidelity, of the absolutely incomprehensible kind and situation.. A must see, or pick up for the collection of classic comedy movies. Tears of laughter friends, tears of laughter.
Best movie pick up line ever January 27, 2007 I. Bynum 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although Sam Elliott's appearance is brief, he has just enough time to deliver the best movie pick-up line ever......"You dented your cheese" Other one-liners bring a couple of good belly laughs and the all-star cast is impressive. This is a great little romantic comedy.
One of my favorites of all times; a good laugh August 7, 2006 P. Westmoreland (SC) This is the beginning carrer of one of the funniest ladies I know. I have seen this movie too many times to tell but it's worth the laugh I get every time.
Awful except for one scene January 23, 2006 Booknik (UK) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I saw this film with preview passes when it was first released. The movie was awful--farfetched dumb plot, nasty characters. The saving grace was a scene between Kirstie Allie and Scott Bakula in which they had an all-out couple's fight. The scene was so realistic and authentic I felt like I'd been transported into another (better) movie. It did make me realise what a good actor Bakula could be. But, sorry to say, the scene was not worth sitting through the whole movie.
