Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com Daniel Day-Lewis won a much-deserved Oscar for his wily, passionate performance as Irish artist and writer Christy Brown, whose cerebral palsy kept him confined to a wheelchair. Filmmaker Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father) adapts Brown's own autobiography for this spirited piece, focusing on the sometimes-difficult fellow's formative years in his large family and in love with sundry women. Day-Lewis is inspired, and Brenda Fricker (also a recipient of an Oscar for her part in this movie) is almost luminous as Christy's dedicated mother. So, too, are Ray McAnally as the hero's stormy father, and Hugh O'Conor (The Young Poisoner's Handbook) as the child Christy. All in all, this is a complete pleasure for viewers. --Tom Keogh

kind of a gritty movie November 14, 2009 R. Bagula (Lakeside, Ca United States) A poor Irish family has more room for the cripple than most rich families ever make.
A man who paints with his left foot and learns to talk at 19 is
someone who is entirely different than ordinary people.
What is inside his head is not reflected by how he is able to move
his body. Once he learns to type there seems to be no stopping him?
Daniel Day-Lewis has been one of my favorite actors since I saw
The Last of the Mohicans (Director's Expanded Edition).
Bringing to life this special person makes him a special actor.
It seems strange that out of such a gritty grinding poor
place should come a picture of courage and endurance for us all.

Great film, brilliant book June 15, 2009 Not Miss Havisham Christy Brown is a stud.
Daniel Day-Lewis' acting is superb.
Adored both film and book.
Excellent Soundtrack May 27, 2009 T. Olsen I recently saw this movie for the first time and was impressed with the soundtrack. It is subtle, yet effective. I am a big fan of soundtrack recordings and rank this one right up there with the best. I was glad to find it on Amazon and have enjoyed adding it to my library.
