Time Changer may be a little strident in its core message (i.e., ethics don't count unless they're backed by the force of Christ), but as an above-average feature for the Christian market, it's pretty agreeable. D. David Morin stars as a late-19th-century Bible professor named Carlisle, whose efforts to publish a book arguing that morals can be taught independent of Christ's teachings is denounced by one Dr. Anderson (Gavin Macleod), a board member at Carlisle's seminary. Anderson, who happens to be in possession of a time machine, sends Carlisle to the year 2001, where the latter quickly discovers the pitfalls of a secular world with relative morality and no absolute (i.e., Christian) standards. Time Changer's seasoned supporting cast, including Paul Rodriguez, Jennifer O'Neill, and Hal Linden, bring a professional gloss to the film that helps counter its thematic single-mindedness, while director Rich Christiano serves up some passable science fiction to go with all the preaching. --Tom Keogh

Product Description
The year is 1890 and Bible Professor Russell Carlisle has written a new manuscript. His book is about to receive an unanimous endorsement from the board members at Grace Bible Seminary until his colleague, Dr. Norris Anderson, has a difficulty with something. Dr. Anderson believes what Carlisle has written could greatly affect future generations. Using a secret time machine, Anderson sends Carlisle over 100 years into the future, offering him a glimpse of where his beliefs will lead.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Message   October 25, 2009
Silence Dogood (Newnan, GA USA)

It is amazing how many people there are commenting on Time Changer who claim to be Christian but have a problem with the movies message. Talk about life imitating art, these people are perfect examples of what Time Changer presents as it's message. Too many people want to call themselves Christian while trying to justify their secular lifestyles. They talk some talk but refuse to walk THE walk. Perhaps these people
will be allowed to have a lawyer present (they'll send to Hell for one) when they try to litigate their way into Heaven.

Time Changer makes clear that humans have no morals if they do not believe in God and in his word. You may think it's wrong to kill, steal, lie, cheat, etc. But if you do not believe and follow these laws because they are commanded by God, then you are merely following your own personal code of conduct. This "code" may mirror many of God's laws, but it is subject to change or justification at your whim or fancy. However, God's law never changes, and is a rock on which to base a moral life.

This movie captures your attention right from the start- and never lets it go! Using science fiction, wit and humor, a serious situation is brought to a real-life, actually-happening climax. Very powerful. NO profanity, NO sexual situations. This movie is great for any age.

Time Changer

5 out of 5 stars Great movie   August 17, 2009

It makes you think- it opens your eyes to the severe moral decline of the world, and the removal of Jesus Christ from our everyday life. I realized how "desensitized" we have become, and how important it is to raise our kids in an environment where Jesus Christ is honored as Lord and Savior, in hopes that when they come to that point in their lives where they need to decide whether or not to follow Christ- they will choose Him!
Timechanger is a great movie for the family, and would be a great movie to show a church group (need permission from Rich Christiano)
Good one for the home library!

1 out of 5 stars Appalling premise and poor acting   June 17, 2009

I have only watched the first half hour of this film, and am so appalled by it that I can't continue to watch it. The basic premise is that moral standards (such as "thou should not steal") cannot exist or be effective unless one believes in Christ, since he is the source of all moral standards. Bull!

I was born to a Christian mother and Jewish father, raised for 2 years as a Presbyterian and then for 4 years as Jew. I know very well the moral standards put forth in the Ten Commandments and Jewish texts; I also spent a year's worth of Saturdays taking required ethics classes as an essential part of religious school in reform Judaism - classes which inculcated students with such a deep sense of ethics that they have a significant and lasting impact for many of us.

Jesus is not the source of moral standards. Many people of all religious persuasions live by highly ethical standards and behavior, as do many atheists (some who are dedicated to helping the poor and disadvantaged and making the world a better place). The basic premise that one must believe in Jesus in order to live an ethical life is not only wrong, it is also frightening because it can lead to considerable judgment, prejudice, and intolerance.

I rented this film through Netflix, based on the description there, which didn't indicate that it is a rightwing Christian film. Indeed it is, and it is also quite amateur - it has some quite awful acting. But as a propaganda piece it is most insidious. I definitely do not recommend it.
