'Woman' better than 'Vampires' August 1, 2009 rjones2818 (Somewhere in Indiana, United States) If I had to choose between the two of them, I would choose Frankenstein Created Woman as being the better of the two. The story was coherant and the acting was very good. Cushing, of course, gets the most kudos, if only for getting so frosty at the beginning of the film. While not one of the great Frankenstein films, it is quite enjoyable.
As for Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires, what can you say. It's an interesting mix of Western and Eastern views on vampires (the other Chinese vampire flix I've seen all seem to have the vampires more like the seven than like Dracula). If you're looking for a Dracula heavy story, bypass this. If you don't mind having your vamps mixed with kung fu, this is your movie.
All-in-all, worth the time if you're interested, but not absolutly must have.
The first transgender monster ? Frankenstein Created Woman is good - but the Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires is not March 7, 2009 D. Steigman (USA) This is a double feature DVD - the first is Frankenstein Created Woman. Ive watched this movie for years and years. This time a woman is the monster, with the brain of her lover who was wrongfully murdered. Call it a transgender Frankenstein monster. I loved the idea! Frankenstein (played brilliantly as Cushing) sort of plays the good guy ( he usually doesnt in these movies) to avenge the murder, with the usual Hammer Gothic gore. I found this to be a gem in the Hammer Frankenstein series. With a splash of gore and women with heaving busts, this is a lot of fun to watch. Very much recommended
Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires - I found this to be too campy, too goofy and the characters unappealing.Mixing Kung Fu and Vampires just didnt do it for me. This one I pretty much avoid. There are plenty of better vampire movies to watch.
Anchor Bay did a nice job with sharp widescreen transfers here.
Unique Entries In The Frankenstein and Dracula Sagas! (A Must Have Double Feature) January 24, 2009 J. B. Hoyos (Chesapeake, VA) I can not give enough praise to this Hammer Productions double feature from Anchor Bay. "Frankenstein Created Woman" and "The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires" are the most unique and entertaining entries in their respective series. Anchor Bay gave each film the royal treatment and this two disc DVD set is definitely worth the price. Hammer enthusiasts should purchase it before it goes out of print. (They'll be sorry if they don't.) This is one of the most enjoyable double features I've seen from Anchor Bay's Hammer Collection. There is never a dull moment in either film.
"Frankenstein Created Woman" is a cleverly crafted thriller that is filled with romance and horror. Ask yourself: What if Hammer Productions did their own version of "Romeo and Juliet?" Hans is in love with Christina who is a sweet, adorable girl but is ashamed of her scarred face and crippled leg. Three spoiled, rich dandies humiliate Christina and frame Hans for murdering her father. When Hans is beheaded, a grief stricken Christina drowns herself. Using Hans' soul, Dr. Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) brings Christina's body to life. Christina is now a beautiful femme fatale; Hans guides her to carve up the men who framed him. Great revenge/slasher film. The viewer will feel much sympathy for Hans and Christina and will be disheartened by the sad, tragic ending.
What if Hammer remade "Enter the Dragon?" We would probably see something like "The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires," which is a unique blend of martial arts action, romance, and horror. Dr. Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) agrees to accompany a family (seven brothers and their sister) of martial arts experts to a remote village in the mountains of China. Dracula, who has resurrected seven vampires and a horde of zombies, is terrorizing the village, constantly demanding the sacrifice of seven virgins. There are a lot of bloody fight scenes, zombies rising from their graves, and the biting of pretty necks. Two romantic relations develop; one ends in tragedy. Van Helsing, we learn, has a very handsome son who falls for the sister of the seven Asian brothers.
Both films are classic gothic horror from Hammer Productions. Every Hammer enthusiast should have them in their collection. Those who relish revenge movies will especially enjoy "Frankenstein Created Woman." Fans of Kung Fu action films will want to see "The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires."

Frankenstein Created Woman(Hammer were great with film titles, weren't they?) has Frankenstein graduating to soul transplants. Sounds like a great idea and a real breakthrough in medical science, but since this is a Frankensetin film, you know it's all gonna go to hell pretty quickly. The "monster" this time around is the reanimated body of a crippled woman who's possessed by the soul of her lover who was falsely executed. Naturally, being executed for a crime he didn't commit kinda pissed him off, so he uses his girlfriend's body to pull a Charles Bronson on the real culprits(a trio of snootyass British rich boys). Another great Hammer Frankenstein entry, but aren't they all?
Legend Of The 7 Golden Vampires was Hammer's last grasp at keeping their Dracula series alive(or dead if you will). The gimmick is setting the film in China and making it into a martial arts film. Sound goofy? Well, it is. Hammer kung fu is kinda hard to fathom till you've seen it. In this one, Van Helsing has travelled to China in search of a lost city that is under the rule of the seven vampires of the title. Everyone in China thinks Van Helsing is a superstitious schmuck except seven brothers who have sworn to bring the vampires down and restore peace to the village. They enlist Van Helsing's help, and along with his son and a rich blonde chick, they all go out in search of the seven golden vampires. Turns out Dracula himself has taken over as leader of the cult. Far fetched? Of course, but it's fun. Cushing does a wonderful job of seamlessley and credibly transplanting his Van Helsing character into a different world. He even gets in on a little of the physical action as well!! Unfortunately Christopher Lee couldn't be lured back and the guy playing Dracula just doesn't feel right. That's no big deal I guess coz Dracula's part is pretty minimal. This isn't the best of Hammer films, but you really got to give it marks for originality. Anchor Bay's got another winner.
