Amazon.com Seducing Dr. Lewis makes a pleasant addition to the quirky subgenre of what might be called "village comedies"--movies in which the oddball residents of a small village must work together to perpetrate some mild scam or bit of mischief (examples abound, from Waking Ned Devine to Saving Grace to Local Hero). The isolated Canadian community of St.-Marie-La-Mauderne desperately needs a new industry, but the factory they're trying to win requires a resident doctor. When a young doctor from Montreal (David Boutin) gets blackmailed into spending a month in the village, the prickly inhabitants go overboard to woo him--they learn to cook Beef Stroganoff, form a cricket team, and tap his phone. It's all a bit preposterous, but that's part of the charm; this kind of movie thrives on being just a tiny bit over the top. The daffy doings keep one foot on the ground thanks to a combination of skilled character actors (like Raymond Bouchard, who plays the town's struggling mayor) and mysterious girls (like Lucie Laurier, the beautiful postmistress). Fans of The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain will find much to enjoy here. --Bret Fetzer
Product Description A much-needed boost in the form of a new factory is promised to the reisdents of the tiny fishing village st. Heartwarming humor and fun! August 20, 2009 Donna L. Cornelius I loved this movie. It wasn't what the title implied. It's not steamy, just fun. If you liked "The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill And Came Down A Mountain" or "Funny Farm", this one's for you. The town's people are so endearing. I came to love all of them, including Dr. Lewis, who was somewhat suspect at the beginning. Definitely a must see.
Light-hearted, joyous family film June 26, 2009 C. Monte (San Jose) Another marvelous French Canadian wonder! This light-hearted, humorous movie was positively hysterical! What does a creative island community do to lure a doctor to its shores to take care of them? Their methods and interactions will make you cry with laughter. This is another homelibrary-quality film. The very picky parent may want to preview, but the light-hearted off-color moral plays are pretty tame and part of the fabric of the film.
Funny, Funny January 29, 2009 E. Kalsch (Wilmington, NC) This is a film for all the family and don't
let the title mislead you. It is so funny
and light hearted everyone will enjoy it. I
purchased it after I rented it and I know it
is a film that you can see more than once.
creative story December 8, 2008 Am (NY) This is a great movie. Good light hearted creative humor, on the silly side sometimes. It's clean without sexual scenes, so I appreciate that, there are a few suggestive moments, but nothing visual. Very enjoyable, no wonder it was recognized (awarded too I believe) at the sundance flim festival.
Charming! Funny! A Delight! March 2, 2008 England's own. (Seattle) I first saw this movie at the movie theatre and determined to buy it no matter what. I did purchase it and I have watched it many times. Others have mentioned the plot so I will just say it is a great addition to my collection. You will not be disappointed.
