| Customer Reviews: The basics of household wiring December 24, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The material was decent, but somewhat on the remedial side. I was looking for something a little more informative and hands-on about the various aspect and practices of wiring and installation of fixtures.
good for basics but not much else April 8, 2006 R. Reding 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you need to learn the terminology and very basics about electricity and wiring, this dvd does a good job of explaining those things. It doesn't get into details of wiring though. You will need more material if you are looking to do some rewiring in your home. Just be aware of what the content covers and you won't be disappointed.
Very good but too short March 14, 2006 JoeB (Latin America) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The DVD did a great job of explaining the basics of electricity, how circuit breakers and GFCI outlets work, explaining Amps, Volts and Watts, short circuits, using the correct gauge wire, etc...
They gave good safety warnings about what to do before starting work and showed how to test for live current.
The actual practical tutorials were on how to install or replace electrical outlets, GFCI outlets, how to replace light switches and how to replace a light fixture.
The information was presented really well but I would have liked it to have been a little longer and to have covered more topics.
It could still be very useful for anyone who just wants to know how to replace outlets, switches and light fixtures.
Way too short for $19.95! March 4, 2006 Michael T. Greene (Philadelphia, PA USA) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Don't be fooled by the title that Amazon gives to this DVD: it covers ONLY the basics of electricity, and NOTHING about how to do or repair wiring. I ordered this dog based on the glowing review of another purchaser, but never noticed the scant run time of 30 minutes. Yep, 30 minutes. Imagine my surprise when I came to the end of the DVD thinking "that was a nice overview, I can't wait to get to the good stuff." Well, there IS no good stuff, or at least nothing that you wouldn't get from the introductory chapter of a much cheaper book on electricity. This would be a good introduction of electricity to a 4-year old child, but in this day and age of proliferation of "how-to" shows, it's an insult to anyone who wants to learn how to do their own wiring.
30 minutes + $19.99 = huge ripoff.
Let my loss serve as a warning to check the run time before you sink your hard earned money into crap like this.
Excellent DVD April 2, 2005 Troy 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This wiring DVD was exactly what I needed. I am no electrician, but now I know how to talk their language, not to mention, do it myself if I want to. I've watched the program several times and it is excellent. It answered a lot of questions I had. It sure is a lot easier watching how something is done instead of reading about it in an electrical manual. Would I recommend this tutorial to someone? Absolutely. It is probably the best how-to program I've ever seen. I wish I had a dozen of these.
