Fantastic Faith & Fortitude September 8, 2009 Janell Garey (Columbia Falls, MT USA) The Hiding Place is such an inspiring story of some true Christians who set out to help their fellow Jewish brothers & sisters have shelter in a very stormy time. There was a high price for helping, but God's faithfulness to them ultimately is always more than reward for the pain and suffering of this life.
This is a fantastic story that continues to inspire & encourage me :).
Not the greatest quality print; lots of dirt marks, scratches August 16, 2009 S. Hoesly 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is not a review of the movie itself but of the picture quality on this "Billy Graham Presents" DVD edition. While it is certainly watchable there are scads of scratches, marks, etc., especially on the right side of the screen. This is definitely not a remastered movie nor one that had the best print source quality. If it's the only way you could see this movie, then this DVD version is passable, but there is an additional DVD that is more expensive that may have been produced from a finer picture quality source.
Intense & Inspiring July 27, 2009 LKR (Colorado, USA) I love this movie! The acting is superb and believable...the story is exciting and true! Based on Corrie Ten Boom, a Christian, living through the capture by the Nazi's during World War 2.
I have given this movie my highest rating.
The Hiding Place June 25, 2009 Carol Schlotterbeck (Kokomo, IN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Hiding Place is part of my English 12 regular school curriculum. We read Night by Elie Wiesel and study the Holocaust. I show this film as it is a concentration camp experience from a female point of view. I have the VHS, but decided to get the more permanent DVD version.
Inaccurate Portrayal Of The Book June 15, 2009 Tara (Alamogordo, NM) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was very disappointed with this film. The film was an inaccurate portrayal of the book, The Hiding Place, and the characters were horribly portrayed. If you have read the book and are expecting to see on screen the same things you've read, you're in for a big disappointment. While I understand that a book provides more details than a movie can, I DO expect the movie to line up with what is written in the book. This was not the case at all in this film. Things that didn't even happen in the book were erroneously included in the film. Casper Ten Boom is portrayed as a semi-spaced out man with the personality of a paper clip. Corrie Ten Boom is protrayed as a dour-faced, sharp-tongued woman who speaks harshly to Gestapo soldiers. The arrival of Eusi at the Beje (as well as the way he acted while staying there) is such a sharp contradiction to that which is written in the book. I could go on and on. Long story short....don't waste your money on this movie. Stick with the book. As soon as my husband and I got done watching the movie, we opened up the wastebasket in our kitchen and threw the DVD away. It was that bad.
