Amazon.com The jokes may be corny and the content squeaky clean, but it's hard to resist the toothy charms of Donnie & Marie. (When Donnie gets a call on his loafer phone, Marie quips, "That's shoe business!") No matter how crazy the characters (Captain Purple and Wonderful Woman), tacky the outfits (heavy on the rhinestones, feathers, and gold lamé), or incredible the situations (Donnie on stilts), the brother-sister duo always look like they wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Though this collection focuses on only four episodes, it does cover every year of the popular Sid and Marty Krofft-produced variety series (1976-1979). Since Marie was "a little bit country" and Donnie "a little bit rock and roll," each installment features selections from both genres--although "rock and roll" usually means R&B and disco--along with giggly sketches and skating from the Vegas-style Ice Vanities. Musical selections include "Jive Talkin'," "Yakety Yak," "I'm Your Puppet," "Dance to the Music," and "Good Day Sunshine." Guests include Charo, Paul Lynde, Ruth Buzzi, Bob Hope, Cheryl Ladd, Carl Reiner (as Carmen Miranda), and Minnie Pearl (as Shirley Temple). While the cavity-prone should steer clear of this sugary flashback, for the rest of the viewing audience, Donnie & Marie offers boundless enthusiasm, supreme silliness, and the widest smiles of the 1970s (next to Jimmy Carter). --Kathleen C. Fennessy

donny & marie show November 21, 2009 James E. Johnson (seneca ks usa) this is my favrite tv show back in the 70s would like to see it from beging to end an unedited . thinking about buying it. untill we get the complete show i won't be buying it till then . tell donny&marie to fix it
Not much for 20+ bucks January 4, 2009 Harry Ohsiek (Salt Lake City, UT) Perhaps I didnt read carefully before purchasing this OL a couple wks ago.
Besides the fact there are only 4 episodes divided into 2 discs & only photo gallery of each episode for extras, these episodes are edited to 30 min each.
From what I remember & Donny says in the 1st season episode "We have a whole hour." The complete opening credits (animated sequence), "It takes Two" segments, solos & music videos w/flower or seagull introduction, & more comedy sketches, are all missing.
I don't know why it had to cost the same as purchasing a 20-30 episode of a tv season from any series & why each episode edited & chopped in half couldnt have just been put onto 1 disc.
But because I haven't seen an episode for over 30 yrs (while in prime time) that's why i hastily purchased this.
Donny and Marie>>>Simply The Best!!!!!!!! July 1, 2008 Roni (Singapore) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Donny and Marie Osmond became the youngest brother and sister duo to have a television show.
Every week we laughed and we were entertained by the comedy and music of Donny and Marie and often the Osmond family.
Every week we listened to some country songs and to some good old rock and roll!!!
Every week we were blessed by words written by Alan Osmond and sung by Donny and Marie.........
"May tomorrow be a perfect day.........."
Get this DVD and travel down memory lane!

A must have, great for a gift too...just wish it was longer, it let you wanting to watch more.
I have the entire series from time-code masters March 27, 2008 Daniel J. Selby (Nevada, Iowa 50201) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This set is disappointing. As others have written the shows are *not* complete. I own the entire series from 1976 to 1979 and each show runs 50+ minutes. I hope Donny will release complete shows soon- I need the artwork!
