Amazon.com When it arrived on the big screen in 1987, Paul Verhoeven's RoboCop was like a high-voltage jolt of electricity, blending satire, thrills, and abundant violence with such energized gusto that audiences couldn't help feeling stunned and amazed. The movie was a huge hit, and has since earned enduring cult status as one of the seminal science fiction films of the 1980s. Followed by two sequels, a TV series, and countless novels and comic books, this original RoboCop is still the best by far, largely due to the audacity and unbridled bloodlust of director Verhoeven. However, the reasons many enjoyed the film are also the reasons some will surely wish to avoid it. Critic Pauline Kael called the movie a dubious example of "gallows pulp," and there's no denying that its view of mankind is bleak, depraved, and graphically violent. In the Detroit of the near future, a policeman (Peter Weller) is brutally gunned down by drug-dealing thugs and left for dead, but he survives (half of him, at least) and is integrated with state-of-the-art technology to become a half-robotic cop of the future, designed to revolutionize law enforcement. As RoboCop holds tight to his last remaining shred of humanity, he relentlessly pursues the criminals who "killed" him. All the while, Verhoeven (from a script by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner) injects this high-intensity tale with wickedly pointed humor and satire aimed at the men and media who cover a city out of control. --Jeff Shannon

Dead Or Alive, You Are Coming With Me! November 20, 2009 Sebastian Sanjurjo (Miami FL) Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1NHNN881B86LE Robocop Trilogy
amazing scii fi series that blew everything else away. November 14, 2009 Joshua Quilty (Houston,TX) I grew up watching Robocop. Just one of those awesome production films that are not too full of it. The whole 1-3 videos. I still remember the video games and all from Robocop in the early 90s if i'm correct. Plan on buying the DVD, can't wait to see it in a digital format so to speak. Then they offer it on Blu Ray which is prolly amazing... my main point, Robocop is a Sci Fi thriller like no other that you will never get tired of.

8th Man anyone? July 24, 2009 C. Hammer 2 out of 21 found this review helpful
First, let me say that Robocop is anything but original. It is a complete rip off of the Japanese cartoon of the early 1960's called 8th man. Many of these episodes were translated to English and aired on US television. It is so similar I have to wonder if there was a lawsuit.
Police reporter Peter Brady is run down by mobster and a scientist takes his dying body and transfers his mind into the invincible robot body of 8th Man. He than dedicates his life to catching criminals. 8th Man was infinitely better and I highly recommend it to anyone.
I know there some cool elements about this movie but. it is still a good idea in a bad movie. I think people are so enamored by the story and special effects that they don't look more critically at the movie itself. It was a horrible movie. It was ugly, violent and depressing in general. The city's denizens also seemed dark and not worth saving. It reminds me of how Gotham City is portrayed in the Batman movies. They portray it in a way that you feel who would want to save it. You feel they should just level the city and start over. It could have been much better.

Robocop is a man who gets all blown up, rushed to the hospital and dies. So what happened? They slam his brain into a giant metal body thats 10 times stronger than man. He carries a gun Dirty harry would love and he takes to the streets and starts to punish the crime lovers. Kids love him-crooks hate him as he smashes and shoots his way through dirty ole Detroit. Theres a side story about some corprate geeks who think they have the 411 on Robo. But he busts a move- pulls his gun and gives em some repercussions. The smell of gunpowder is everywhere as he takes back his life. AT the end we all weep with Robo as he becomes a man again.
