Product Description ABOUT THE PERILS OF LOVE DURING HOLLYWOOD'S BLACKLISTING ERA. SPECIAL FEATURES: WIDESCREEN VERSION, DUAL LAYER, SUBTITLES:ENGLISH, SPANISH, PORTUGUESE, CHINESE, KOREAN, AND THAI, TALENT FILES, DIRECTOR SYDNEY POLLACK'S COMMENTARY, DOCUMENTARY LOOKINGBACK, AND THEATRICL TRAILERS.
Amazon.com essential video Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand star as sociopolitical opposites--he's a WASP novelist, she's an activist--who nevertheless strike up a romance in the 1930s, and have a rocky relationship through the next two decades that reflects much of America's history. An essential part of the movie--the Hollywood blacklist and the McCarthy witch- hunt years--comes across as a botch, due to some excessive cutting before the film was released. But except for that hole in the heart of the story, director Sydney Pollack (Out of Africa) has crafted a strong and moving drama about two interesting characters. Redford (always good with Pollack) is at the height of his powers, and Streisand is persuasive. --Tom Keogh

Very Unique February 28, 2010 David C. (texas) This movie was NOT what I was expecting, and that was a good thing. Being in the movie business, I really avoided this film for a number of years. But finally watched it because I enjoy the work of Sidney Pollack. I must say this film ran the entire range of emotions. For one thing, many parts of this film were boring as hell!!!!! I can tolerate a great deal, but certain aspects of this movie sucked!
Having said that, I went through a relationship similar to the one of the picture, and THAT aspect of the film is very true to real life. Two people wanting something that they cannot have, which is each other. It's very deep when it comes to that aspect of life, and I think that part of the film is what makes it so powerful.
A favorite 37 years! February 5, 2010 Oldie But Goodie (USA) I can't say much more than the review just previous to me about the story, the characters or the quality of acting. All were superb. No matter how many times I watch, this movie still moves me to laugh and to cry. Two of the best actors of all time unite and nothing can compare.
If you haven't seen this movie, you must do so NOW.
The way we were review October 13, 2009 Richard Hutchinson (Wayne, NJ) I ordered this movie because I heard from Sarah Jessica Parker that it was a great movie. I love it. It does get pretty sad but It's a great flick, a classic. I got it here for only $3 and some change. Barbra Streisand rocks!
Thank you "Sex and the City" for recommending..... October 8, 2009 CharlotteShoeLover (Charlotte, NC) For any Sex and the city lovers out there, Carrie and her friends referred to this movie when Big ran off and married another women. After watching that particular episode for the 100th time I found this movie on Amazon. Hell if you want to find anything it can be found on Amazon. Back to the movie, I wasn't even born when this came out and after watching it. It is by far one of the best love movies I have ever seen. Actually, I'm still unable to cry about the ending but I feel it coming. Excellent purchase. Thank you Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda.
Beautiful film, beautiful actors. October 6, 2009 CAL DREAMIN (FL) An old stand by - classic - I had on VCR tape and bought on DVD. I have loved this for years and always will. The music, the Streisand/Redford connection is just awesome! Cant say enough about it! This will always be a favorite I am sure!
