| Customer Reviews: A really nice series March 15, 2008 Mark McKay (Los Angeles, California) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Being a big fan of the original book, I was intrigued enough to buy this adaptation. This departs from the original storyline quite a bit, but stays true to the core ideals. And even though it's targeted at a younger audience than the book, you never feel like it's talking down to you or glossing over some of the more unpleasant parts of life. It's a fine example of Canadian animation, and reminded me a bit of The Raccoons (another classic Canadian series). If you're thinking of buying it, though, you might want to hop on over to amazon.co.uk - you can buy a set with all three seasons there rather than this set that only has four episodes.

Dumb down version of a classic tale. August 3, 2007 A. Craft (Saint Clair Shores, MI USA) 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
The original film is fairly close to the book and is a classic. It doesn't stray far from the true nature of what happens. HERE they make it cute and fun for the whole family. Gone is any real intensity it had along with the close ties it had with the book.
So if you want your kids to remain naive about sad events and situations that deal with real life then by all means get it.
However if you want a classic that will leave an impact then get the original movie or better yet the book.
If you want any more reasons to avoid this well the animation is bad compared to the movie that came out in the mid 70s and so are the voices.
