 Uses the correct wire gauge November 1, 2006

I received this as a gift, because I added it to my wishlist. About the same time, I purchased an almost equivalent version from Home Depot, but with larger wire. This is 16/3 and the one I have is 14/3 or 12/3. This one works well and my other one doesn't. The HD version's wire gauge is large enough that it won't retract fully, unless you wind it PERFECTLY. I have to "coax" it in for the last 2 feet on a good day and pull it back out an rewind it atleast once when is starts sticking with 7+ feet out. This version retracts fully, with no fuss. I'm really happy with the performance.

The stampings are very nice, but the internal attachment point for the large rewind spring was broken, allowing the spring to slip with a loud braaaap noise. The cord wouldn't retract at all.
The reel has a lifetime warranty, though, so hopefully a return will be easy.
I would have given this reel five stars except for the functional defect.

Pretty sweet piece of kit. Suspends from the ceiling well, the rectracting assembly works well. Some people may complain that it is only 16 gauge, but it works well for quick jobs in a workshop.

This is a great cord reel! Very easy to use. Sets easily. No unexpected wind-ups. It retracts with authority with a tug of the cord. Built well. Love it!

Until I installed this retractable extention cord I had to deal with a cord hanging over my work bench. With this product just a little tug and the cord is out of the way, no tangles and its long enough to reach every part of my 20'x 20" shop. Installation was a breeze, I used the celing mount but would work great as a wall mount too!
