Product Description Harmful power surges and voltage spikes can travel up AC power and coax connections and damage your components. Lightning, automatic garage doors, power tools, refrigerators and fluorescent lights all cause power surges and voltage spikes that can travel up AC power lines and coax cables to damage the sensitive electronic circuitry of your connected audio video components. Ordinary surge protectors, or the so-called value brands, often fail to provide the adequate level of protection your AV components need. Plus, standard surge protectors often cause as much as 20 to 30dB of signal loss which can adversely affect the output performance levels of coax connections.

good buy October 21, 2009 Amanda (Santa Barbara, CA) I have had it a month and haven't had a problem yet! The only complaint I have is the sockets are really tight and I had to practically jam in my Dvr plug into the socket. Otherwise, everything works great.
Works okay; don't use the coax cable connector October 6, 2009 Noel C. Bauman (College Station, TX USA) When I first hooked up my new HDTV and DVR, I couldn't get a signal to the DVR. When the cable guy came out, he said the problem was a weak signal. After working on my cable for 30 minutes, it turns out that the "surge protection" of the cable coax on this unit loses too much of the signal. Don't use it.
Otherwise, this product is fine...but I could have bought a cheaper one that didn't have these "extra" features.
Low Bang for the Buck September 24, 2009 Ashley Berthel (chicago, il United States) I bought this Monster surge protector for my home theater and the Belkin one below for my home office:
Belkin 8 Outlet Home/Office Surge Protector with Phone/Coaxial Protection and Extended Cord
The Monster protector is just OK and not a great bang for the buck. Wasn't pleased with the level of detail on the description of this item. There are not any phone connections. Don't have the box in front of me, but I think surge protection is about 1350 Joules, with a $75,000 guarantee. This compares to the Belkin I bought for $5 less, which had 3500 Joules of protection and a $200,000 guarantee. I'm not an expert on the level of Joules I need to cover, but more is better. Additionally, the Belkin has phone protection, which will be more important to me as IPTV takes off, along with gold-plated coaxial connections. The Monster has clearly labeled outlets for each component, but that's really not that important to me.
I have no doubt this Monster product is quality, but the features aren't as good and it's not as good of a value.
Moster surge September 10, 2009 J. Lievens (Austin, TX) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Works fine although I don't think we've had a surge, but it's a convenient ext., chord.
It just works August 1, 2009 Average Joe (LV, NV) Nice long power chord. Color coding might be useful to some. Convenient on/off switch. Luckily I've never had to see how it holds up in a power surge, but I've had it for about six months now with absolutely no problems. It seems to be built sturdy and with quality parts.
