Works - Even With Two Receivers October 24, 2008 Vermilion & Brighton (Michigan) We were already successfully using one Instajack set to hook up the DVR on our satellite TV system to the phone line on the other side of our living room. Later we wanted to add an additional telephone jack in a bedroom on the other side of our home. I purchased the second receiver and installed it in the room. This room, while on the same floor, is separated by about 50 feet and down a hall (with several walls) from the original transmitter. As far as the installation, I followed the instructions and had both receivers programed to the one transmitter in no time. Now both the DishDVR, and the telephone in the bedroom, dial and receive calls flawlessly. For those Instajack users who are having problems dialing out with their satellite receivers, and also have DSL internet; we also initially had some trouble dialing out, but we realized that we had failed to put a DSL filter on the Instajack receiver. Since we've corrected that, we haven't had any further trouble.
InstaJack April 28, 2008 Ellen Gelin The GE Instajack worked perfectly as a remote location for telephone service where I could not run a regular telephone extension plug.
Does not work with Direct TV !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! March 26, 2008 Rick D. Lyons 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this thing because I needed a jack in my bedroom for Direct TV. it DOES NOT work with Direct TV!!! the package says it does but it does not. Its easier and cheaper to run wire and drill a hole or two if needed rather than fuss with this thing. Dont be fooled by this thing. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH DIRECT TV.
GE Model TL96595 Instajack for Phones February 23, 2008 Donald G. Kite (Michigan's Upper Peninsula) We recently canceled our local telephone service, which was around $45 monthly. The only features we had was Caller ID and no long distance service, and we use our cell service for long distance. Our ISP recently offered "LightPhone" to its high-speed Internet subscribers. This created a problem because there was not a telephone jack in our computer room. And since we have cordless 2.4GHZ Digital spread-spectrum telephones, the Instajack solved the problem. Simply by installing a two-line splitter in the telephone port of the LinkSys phone adapter, I was able to plug in the extension unit near our computer, and installed the base unit downstairs in the family room. Actually, we solved two problems. Problem #1 was no jack in the computer room upstairs. Problem solved. Problem #2 is that our digital satellite TV downstairs in the family room needs to be connected to a telephone line, so that's why we installed the Instajack base unit near the television set in the family room. Otherwise, DishNetwork would have charged us a monthly programming fee had the TV not been connected to a telephone line. No static on the telephone line, just crisp, clear digital wireless telephone service. We're happy because our land-line telephone service was costing around $46 per month, with no long distance, and no features other than Caller ID. Now our telephone service is full featured, i.e., long distance service to the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Also, Caller ID, Voice Mail, speed dial, etc., etc., all for only $14.95 monthly. Without the GE TL96595 InstaJack, all this would not have been possible. I would recommend the InstaJack to anyone who needs a telephone jack. Why get ripped off by the telephone company? You can do it yourself with no problem. I'm a happy camper!
Vertical mount ONLY! February 3, 2008 A. Dean (San Jose, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had intermittent connection problem at first when the transmitter unit was sitting level on a power strip. However, as soon as I plugged the transmitter vertically to the wall, the connection became stable. I figure this is due to when the unit is mounted vertically, the radio wave covers most of the floor. However, if it sits level, then the radio wave actually goes into the ceiling and the floor. After all, many antennas out there are directional!
