Not acceptable August 17, 2008 A techno geek (Kihei, Maui, HI USA) 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
Protective devices such as these are designed for rare events, like getting hit by lightning. But I think for these MasterCubes, a far more common event than being hit by lightning is to be taken on trips where the voltage is 220. And in these situations, the MasterCube fails shockingly (literally!). If you miss the fine print on the MasterCube that shows only 120 volts, and use it in China, you get a nasty surprise --- the failure mode on this unit is to short out the circuit. It tripped the circuit breaker in my China hotel. Once damaged, plugging it into a 120v outlet will short out your power, making it an electrical hazard. This is an unacceptable failure mode. Most likely the item to get for travel is: Belkin F9H220-TVL Travel Surge Protector with Hidden Swivel Plug . But Amazon's info for either model says nothing about the voltage ratings.
This thing really works! June 30, 2008 Paul Skeffington (Jefferson, CO USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I live in the Colorado mountains at 10000 ft elevation. The house sits on a large rock outcropping just barely covered by dirt. Storms build here before moving out east to the plains. The rock outcropping is a great attractor of lightning. Before using the Belkin surge protector we lost many a phone and modem if we forgot to unplug the phone lines. We got hit with lightning last week, enough to rattle the windows, and the surge protector took the hit and protected the phone. I'm sold. I'm buying two more, one to replace the old one and one spare. Its a lot cheaper to replace the surge protector than the phone.

This is a great surge protector at a good price. The best thing about this surge protector is the size, it fits perfect in my laptop bag, as this is what i use it for. i would recommend this to anyone who totes around a laptop. you have one for your desktop why not protact your laptop as well.
What I expected. Great seller. November 25, 2007 B. Daneshfar A great price for this surge protector. Haven't had anything go out or be hit by lightening yet though. But the information on the package and the joule rating and warranty of items connected to it make me believe it should stand up to what these devices were made for.
An economical way to protect your equipment November 2, 2006 The Analyst (NYC, NY) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Can be used behind the refrigerator to protect it against surges that can damage the compressor relay. Although the actual effectiveness is still unknown since I have no way of knowing if I was hit by a power surge.
