Works Well and as Expected October 14, 2008 MJC (Chicago) Circuit box is in the basement on the east side of the house. This let me easily locate the breaker switch for an outlet on the 3rd floor on the West side of the house. The two locations could not be farther from each other at our house (three flights of stairs and across the length of the house). Simply plugged the locator device into the outlet I wanted to identify, then followed the instructions (make sure you hold the device correctly) to scan the circuit switches with the yellow wand. Viola! It pinpoints the right breaker switch on the second pass.
Zircon 59353 Circuit Finder Pro with CF12 August 3, 2008 Ronald Schwalbe (Hopewell Jct., NY United States) Product worked extremely well for me. I followed the simple directions and held the scanner perpendicular to the breakers as directed, made the suggested TWO passes to first calibrate the unit, and on the second pass, I found the active breaker easily. The extra components to allow outlet or socket or prong searching is a BIG plus for all circumstances you might run into. Excellent product - nicely packed -easy to use.
Very disappointed July 22, 2008 pnc (Pound Ridge, NY United States) This Zircon tracing unit was purchased in preparation for extensive rework of a main household electrical panel. It looked great, both in description and when it arrived. But it proved to be completely useless in operation. I followed the instructions meticulously, taking special care to calibrate the unit by passing the sensor over all the breakers in the box. It would sometimes sense breakers in the vicinity of the correct one but that once sensed, they set the calibration to a level that could not be repeated, so on a second pass across the breakers, there was NO indication of finding a breaker. [It sometimes sensed breakers that had no relation to the circuit being traced) After trying to trace three separate circuits, I made one final test: I used the receiver to sense the transmitter directly. I then "sensed" an outlet not far away and returned to retest the transmitter - even that did not work. At that point the unit went back into its box and back to Amazon. Today the electrician who came to do the work on the electrical panel traced the circuits by turning on lights and having a helper visually see what went off when he tripped certain breakers. He explained that they had found transmitter/receiver systems to do this unreliable. It's possible I got a defective unit. It's possible others who gave high reviews were lucky, not sure. But for my money this device was a pure waste of time; were it not for Amazon's return policy it would also have ben a waste of money. Pity.
Not quite what I expected June 30, 2008 J. Daniel (Hurst, Texas USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this product specifically to trace wires behind sheet rock walls. However, it will not sense the wires unless it is within an inch or two of them. It is fairly selective for determining which wire the signal is on in a bundle - if this is what you need to do this instrument is a good choice. A better tool for sensing wires up to 2 feet away is the Fluke/Harris MB6000 Probe kit.
Very good May 15, 2008 William R. Boughton (Denver, Co) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
