Everyone talks about teaching kids to brush for two minutes, but their aren't very many materiel solutions to support in that endeavor. The few kids tooth brushes that exist with timers built in only measure 1 minute. Expensive adult brushes like the Sonicare have two minute timers, but are kind of expensive, heavy, and powerful for little kids. Some people use kitchen timers, but these are not nearly as fun, intuitive, or even accurate for measuring tooth brushing.
So really, there are two suitable products available for this purpose. Both are made by this company. This one has one light and the other has two. I'm not sure what the purpose of the second light is, on the other model, but can tell you that this one, with only one light works fine. Also at the time that I bought this timer, the one with one bulb had free shipping with Amazon Prime, and the one with two didn't.
When using the two minute tooth timer, it starts blinking green rather slowly. As you get closer to the end of your two minutes the green light blinks faster and faster. Once the two minutes is done it goes from fast blinking green to red.
Since the light is provided by LED bulbs it is bright, consistent, and doesn't deplete the three AAA batteries too quickly.
The timer comes with three attachment methods, a suction cup, Velcro, and a screw. Right now we are using the suction cup on the mirror with works fine.
The only thing I can't comment on is the durability of this unit. It seems fine, but I haven't been using it long enough to know whether I'm going to run into the same problems as some of the other reviewers.

Packaging & concept are great but after 2 days tooth button did not function properly and reset button got stuck. I really wanted this to work as looks like best way to make sure kids brush or wash long enough. Maybe they will improve future versions. At least it was inexpensive. Not worth the $ to send back for a replacement that quite likely will fail.

My kids are brushing their teeth longer and washing their hands longer... that's the whole point, right? I can't comment yet on durability as we have not had it more than a week. So far, however, I am pleased and see the value in this product (especially with a harsh flu season starting up.)

We have used several different timers for brushing teeth. Finally someone came up with a timer that will work without the help of an adult. My kids ages 6 and 7, LOVE this product. It is so easy for them to use. It mounts with suction cups right onto the mirror. We have had it for 3 months and have had no problems. My kids teeth are much cleaner after brushing-hopefully no cavities at the next visit to the dentist!

I bought this after my daughter had her first orthodontist appointment. The dentist took many photos of my daughter's teeth - and commented on how she was doing an awful job keeping her teeth clean. This device came, and now all three of my kids are cleaning their teeth (and hands) for the recommended amount of time. I too used it - and was surprised at how long it took for the 2 minutes to be over while brushing my teeth. Even though I thought I was doing a good job, clearly I was not brushing long enough. Great product, mounts right on the mirror with suction cups and also works for timeouts!
