speakerphone for elderly mom March 17, 2010 Yolanda Estrada (dutchess) I bought this item for my mom, and she loves the speakerphone capability...she tends to not hear correctly while holding a phone, but now all she does is hit the speakerphone and she feels better about talking to people on the phone, since she can clearly hear every word via speakerphone..
stopped working after 3 weeks and the box being thrown out March 14, 2010 T. Gilm (West Islip, NY United States) This machine just stopped working. Thanks for asking for a review at this time. Since it worked for a short period of time the box was thrown out making it just about impossible to return. In addition having to pay for shipping and going to a shipping locatation to send it out makes it impractical to return. Purchasing the AT&T 1856 corded speakerphone via online shopping was a mistake and turned out to be a complete waste of money. I tried standard troubleshooting and it was of no help. In retrospect it would have been better to have spent a couple of extra dollars and gone to the store. It's disapointing and makes me feel like I got ripped off.
Better than expected February 25, 2010 C. Wiliams After my phone died yesterday morning (best phone ever held up for 15 years). I ran to amazon looking for a phone I needed a answering machine, and for it to be corded and have a CID and a speaker phone I really wanted it to talk too but I would hold my breath plus I wanted it to be under $30. I know fat chance huh. Well I got lucky I found the AT&T 1856 Corded Speakerphone with Digital Answering System. It has everything I wanted and is at a great price. I ordered it one day mail thanks Prime :) Got it today set it up and it TALKS OMG the only thing I hate is the display is not lit so if using in the dark you will need a light but it talks so you will know who is calling, and it dont have a lot of time for messages 19 min so tell your long winded friends to keep it short. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
Too Lightweight-Spills Over Constantly! Settings-Ugh! February 13, 2010 Zoe (Richmond. MN USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I selected this phone as I work from home a few days a week and wanted a speaker option. Although it seems to technically do what it is supposed to, I've struggled with any settings I've tried to work with. It may be that I wasn't very patient, but really, ahouldn't retrieving your messages just be a matter of being able to press a button? The button presses in four directions and honestly after having this phone for about a year I still just keep pressing it every which way to try to get it work. In addition, both the handset and the unit's body have absolutely no heft-I use it as a desk phone and I rarely manage to get the receiver back to the cradle until the fourth attempt-drives me crazy! I just bought a Crosley and have decided I can live without the speaker if it will get this miserable thing out of my life-good riddance!
A good value February 2, 2010 Keith E. Carlson (Arizona) A good multipurpose phone. As with most digital phones the voices are not the clearest but easy to understand. Well worth the price.
