This is great! We put songs that match the season, birthday tune when it is someone's birthday, and other times, my daughter chooses songs she wants and puts them on. The only draw back, is the size of the USB. Not very many short snipits can go on it. I was able to get about 6 20-25 sec snipits, that was it. Not a big deal though, still better than the same old two note ding dong.

I had high hopes for this product when I ordered it but problems with the design make it very difficult to use.

Pros: The software is easy to install and to use. You can use one of your unprotected mp3 files to make a door chime. The chime is actually your recorded mp3. You can edit the beginning and end to make it fit on the sound card which is a little USB flash drive that holds about a minute's worth of mp3. You can load about 3 different 20 second recordings or one or two longer ones. You can also use MIDI, type 0 and 1 and Wav PCM files. Once you have the clip edited for length, you download it to the little USB flash drive. All this is handled through the provided software and although there aren't many instructions, it's very intuitive. Changing the recordings is easy. You can delete old ones and add new quickly. It took me about 5 minutes. The flash memory then fits into the main unit.

Cons: The product is advertised as "CD quality sound". This sounds pretty much like any of the older, plastic musical door bells that play different tunes. The whole unit is made of plastic and is a little less than 6 inches in diameter. The speaker itself is very small and encased in plastic and that's the way it sounds. Most of the space in the main unit is taken by 3 "C" batteries. (Not included) The sound may be digital but it sounds nothing like "CD quality". The instructions that come with the product says the chimes work best with acoustic clips. Still, I could have lived with the sound. I wasn't expecting perfection.

The doorbell button unit is a little less than 4 inches long, made of plastic and has a tiny indentation where you place a screwdriver to pry off the top. This is where the biggest problem lies with this product. All of the buttons used to change the song or chimes are in this little unit. So every time you want to change it, you have to go outside and pry off the top which isn't easy. This was difficult with two hands, one holding the top and one the bottom. But when the doorbell button is mounted on your door frame with two little screws, it would very difficult to pry off the cover to change the settings. I had planned to mount the button unit with an adhesive strip like I did with my present one, but it wouldn't be possible since you'd pull the whole unit off the door trying to get the top part off every time you wanted to change the chimes. I phoned Honeywell, and they said it has to fit tightly together to make it waterproof and that I should contact Amazon if I wanted to return it.

The idea for this doorbell is a good one, to be able to record your own music or sounds for use as a door chime. It would have been better if all the controls were in the main unit (The white disk that stays in the house) and if it were made of better materials so that the sound would be a little better. I'm not asking for stereo or hi fi, but for just under fifty bucks I expected better quality. The real deal breaker is that the controls for changing the songs are in the button unit outside and it's very difficult to get the cover off without breaking the unit. I will probably return it.
