Fit for most of the cars October 30, 2008 Antu D. Mathiyas (St.Joseph, MO USA) Previously i bought one DC/AC Inverter, it is peak Current is 15A (No one mention about Current), and I connect into my car for long Trip, and i lost the Car Fuse because CAR FUSE also 15A. So i bought APC PNOTEAC150 150 Watt DC/AC Inverter, it is 12A and it works great.
Good Buy August 13, 2007 eddieray (Medina, OH USA) For the price, you can't beat it. It is replacing one that I had for over 15 years. If you want to operate a laptop, portable dvd player or even hook up a game system to a built in T.V. in your RV - works well. The only thing missing is an on/off switch.
Goes into overload condition when none exists - Same problem as J. Hunter July 5, 2007 JimBob (NC) I am having the same problem with my new unit as J. Hunter. Even testing with a a very modest load - a 40Watt light bulb. The unit cycles on and off from overload to supplying power. Sometimes the small fan comes on sometimes it does not. I am disappointed as my many prior experiences with APC equipment have been VERY positive. To their credit, when I called APC today they agreed to ship, via overnight mail, a replacement unit. I am hopeful that the replacement will work correctly. UPDATE: To their credit APC did ship a replacement unit overnight, to my dismay this unit has the same issue when I try to use it with my car. I did some additional experimenting and have some detail - the unit appears to operate OK from a RUNNING vehicle. When the engine is running most charging systems keep the voltage in the range of 14 Volts. However, within just 10-30 seconds of turning off the ignition when battery voltage drops back to ~12volts the APC unit starts to act up again. I then tried the unit on my neighbor's cars and it works as expected on one of the cars but has the same problem on their other car. Something screwy is going on, but I don't have time to figure out exactly what it is.......the battery voltage on my car is 12.5V with engine off, and this voltage is the same at the battery and at the cigarette lighter socket as well.... but ... I gotta move on. Jim
Seems to work OK with a Macbook Pro September 16, 2006 Paul Derby 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I picked up the PNOTEAC150 a couple of days ago and am now actually writing this review from a field 51 miles SW of Washington DC using this inverter. The PNOTEAC150 is plugged into an Optima Yellow 12v gel battery. I've been doing email and surfing the web for 30 minutes with no problems. The only surprise so far is the motor noise that comes from the PNOTEAC150. It seems to cycle on and off...not sure if it is a fan or what. But so far, so good. The MacBook Pro's 85w power adapter seems to be happy plugged into this APC inverter.
Over rated? (see updates - More to come) June 6, 2006 J. Hunter (Arizona) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Does not work with Dell Laptop PC charger! I purchased one of these units to charge/power my Dell Inspiron 9200 laptop PC while travelling in a vehicle. The rated output of the device is 150W which should be ample for a Dell 90W AC adapter. The unit appears to overload and cycle on and off again until it blows the 20 amp fuse in the vehicle cigarette lighter circuit. It works fine with a 60W household lamp or a 60W soldering iron. I sent a detailed e-mail message to APC support and was advised to push the cigarette lighter adapter firmly into the socket! Evidently their tech support people don't read detailed descriptions of faults and just put out generic troubleshooting tips. Update: noon 06-06-06 After a follow up note to APC tech support, they have now arranged to send a replacement unit. Don't know if this will solve the problem. Watch this space for further updates. Update 6-23-06 APC shipped a replacement on 06-07-06 FedEx ground. It behaves exactly the same as the original unit. APC want the original back for evaluation but as of today, they have not sent the return label for me to send it back! Update 7-13-06 I returned the original unit to APC over two weeks ago and have heard nothing back from them yet! Frustration level is rising. A pity, the unit is nicely designed and well constructed, it just won't work with my 90W Dell Laptop power adapter. Update 7-31-06 I finally gave up waiting for APC to resolve this. The technican handling the problem apologized and said it was out of his hands. If you want to buy this unit, try one out first if possible to make sure it will do the job you need it for.
