Amazon.com Review A deceptively simple-looking tool, the BoWrench is a boon for both professional deck builders and do-it-yourselfers. The BoWench gives you a fast, one-person way to straighten decking boards. This is great, because decking material--whether redwood, cedar, or another, more exotic rot-resistant wood--is often warped, especially in 14- to 16-foot lengths. To operate the BoWrench, you simply fit the tool on a joist, swing the lever arm, and release. You can either push or pull boards into alignment, and when the handle is perpendicular, the tool locks in place, holding the board securely and leaving you free to drive nails or screws. The BoWrench is better than toenailing. Burying nails in the sides of decking to close gaps works, but it gives water more ways to enter the decking, which eventually leads to rot. With the BoWrench, you'll save time, create a longer-lasting surface, and maximize material. Using the special cam attachment (sold separately), the BoWrench replaces the clumsy beater block as the best way to close gaps in tongue-and-groove plywood and paneling. --Jon Groebner

A must have for deck building November 15, 2009 J. Laita (southbury, Ct. USA.) Simply a must have for doing a deck. Yes you can do without it but the time and energy spent with other means is not worth it! Built rougged and will do many decks with ease! Well worth the money!
missing parts, but a helpful tool October 15, 2009 R. norden really helps straighten boards, but the instuctions were faded and not easy to read. plus missing the cotter- like pins that hold the pieces together, had to go to hardware store.
OK for 1-1/2" material ONLY October 8, 2009 Michael Winters I did not realize that the design of the Cepco bowrench limited it to use on 1-1/2 lumber so when it came time to use it on some ipe decking on 3-1/2" sleepers the tool was worthless. I was able to hacksaw the stud off the joist-gripper and temporarily add a machine bolt to get the tool to work and will later weld on a new stud.
I now know that Capco also sells an adjustable joist gripper but this should not be needed had the design of the basis tool been better. I would rather pay a few dollars more at the time of purchase than get a tool and find I must buy a second part and pay more shipping and take more time to start the job.
Buy this and stop sorting September 25, 2009 GalvezGuy (Galveston, TX, USA) I have been rebuilding my decks around my house as part of Ike recovery. I have been reusing as much of the old wood as I could and the wood you get from lumber yards these days takes a of sorting. With this tool, I was able to straighten as I went, saving a lot of time and return trips. Took me a little while to figure out, but the hands off ability of this tool made it possible for me to do the entire deck without assistance. Great time and money saver (I would think) for both pros and DIYers like me.
A BoWrench is a necessity for Tigerclaw fasteners September 15, 2009 S. Eikanger (Colorado Springs, CO USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was getting pretty frustrated trying to install 2x6 redwood with Tigerclaw hidden fasteners. Even boards that seem straight are not straight enough to install without something to push and hold them in place. The BoWrench worked great for this. The tool does what it says it will do. I am not sure how I would have completed the decking without this tool.
