| Customer Reviews: Superb for Splitting Wood July 7, 2009 J. Ulbright (Boston, MA) I've had this axe about 4 years. Have used it around the house and on wilderness canoeing/camping trips. Heavy enough to chop down 8 to 10-inch trees; light enough for good control splitting kindling or limbing downed trees. The wedge-design axe head is frankly amazing in splitting logs. I've abused the axe in many ways including splitting wood on shield rock and using it as a digging implement without any damage (well, other than a need for a lot of sharpening).
The non-stick coating wears off with use, but I don't notice any particular difference. I agree that the plastic axe-head cover with a "handle" isn't the best. I've worn out the plastic "snap' that holds the axe in (a little duct tape has at least temporarily fixed). In my opinion, would be better if it came with a more traditional nylon or canvas axe-head cover. For most users, however, I suspect the supplied plastic cover will work well for many years.
Good axe October 22, 2008 J. Beckman (NY USA) I was looking for an axe to take camping -- something lighter than my old axe. I prefer a slightly longer-handled axe than this one, but so far this axe has worked well and I am happy with it. I split a bunch of hardwood during a fall camping trip -- lighter weight, worked great, no problem.
One quibble -- they should sell this axe with a nylon axe-head cover. Instead, it comes with a large, rigid, hard-plastic, handled case that you set the head in -- inconveniently large and awkward for taking it camping
Great axe May 15, 2008 R. R. Greenlaw (Orinda, California) If you want a good balanced axe that works harder than you, this is the one. If you want an axe to look great and hang on the wall, purchase a Snow and Nealley. The S & N handle broke and the better Fiskar axe cost less than to replace the handle.
