All of my neighbors have their own axes of varying types, but almost all of them ask to borrow this one if they need to really do some work. The edge is almost sharp enough to shave with and retains it's edge even after hours of work. The best axe I've ever owned! The axe is very light, especially in the handle. The composite material seems very strong and unbreakable. The axe performs very well and a strong stroke will drive through a piece of wood to make kindling. However I do have an issue with the axe. The axe has a head of normal width but the length isn't as long as your common axe. What that means is if you wedge it onto a piece of wood and try to lift the piece to strike the ground, the wood falls off the axe every time. This forces you to use it as a wedge and strike it with another piece of wood. Or strike it as hard as you can and hope you don't hit any rocks at the end of the stroke. Otherwise the axe is well constructed and great as can be expected from any gerber product.
