The rugged Spectra Precision® Laser HD50 Handheld Distance Meter is designed to give specialty contractors a high-accuracy, one-person distance measuring and estimating tool to measure remote and difficult-to-reach places. Accurate to 1/6" (1.5 mm) across the entire measuring range, the lightweight, portable HD50 is more accurate than conventional tapes to help contractors avoid costly mistakes and reduce expensive rework. This is a very well designed and manufactured laser measuring tool. I purchased it from Amazon recently for only 85-dollars, which was a bargain. P. Tharp was right...this is a dead ringer for the similar Bosch tool, except color. It is very fast and accurate. A minor drawback is that in the 3rd available readout, it measures in feet and fractional inches but not just in inches. I've had issues measuring from floor to ceiling, although I would not have thought a matte white color on a popcorn ceiling would be reflective enough to cause reading errors. Overall, this is a great tool and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it again for 100-dollars.

This tool is a tough, reliable measuring device. It is fast and comes in a nice case that fastens onto a belt. It has served me daily for a year. I haven't used other laser measuring tools but what I read suggests that there may be better ones out there. For example, the Spectra does not hold more than one measurement in memory. In sunlight over distances of 15 feet it is difficult to see the laser. The price for the unit is definitely right...half of what I paid.

This is a really neat device that measures accurately to within 1/16th of an inch over 165 feet. So does the Bosch DLR165K. As a matter of fact, they are the same unit- one is yellow, one is Bosch blue. The Bosch can be purchased for less- in some cases, much less. Look for the best price before you buy.

I bought this because I was having difficulty installing long pieces of crown molding - getting the length right. I do this alone, without a helper. So far (1 month) this device works like a charm. Perfect cuts every time. Easily accurate to 1/16". Small, great functionality.
