Good value, nice chisel July 1, 2009

This is a good chisel, it's nice and wide, which is great because most air hammer kits come with a chisel that's about 1/2-3/4" wide, so since this is a little over 2" wide, any job that would have taken 2 hours takes about 30 minutes. This chisel would have gotten 5 stars, but for the fact that the steel is a little softer than I would have liked. I'm using it to hammer up tile and thinset off of concrete, so I'm being really hard on it and it's having trouble keeping an edge, but the angle in the chisel (can't really see it in the picture, it's got about a 10 degree angle between the shaft and the blade) makes it more versatile for chipping in different applications. A note of caution, if you're hammering tough stuff with this, because it's up to 4 times as wide as a standard air hammer kit chisel (more surface area in contact with the chipping surface), you've got to put up to 4 times the downward force on the blade to get it to apply the same pressure as a narrow chisel. I was using a 3/4" chisel to hammer up tile, and I could let the air hammer's weight do all the work because it was so narrow. Now, it goes 2.5 times as fast, but I also have to push down on the hammer with 2.5 times more force to do the same work. It's well worth it to me.
