may open without combination March 18, 2010 A. Rondeau 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I found a video on youtube that appears to be about this product. The video shows the vault being opened without the combination. (by simply tapping on the door) Don't know if this is true or not. May be worth watching. Make up your own mind after watching the video. The video is called: "Unsafe gun safe vault" [...]
Excellent March 4, 2010 McLean, VA This is an excellent product if you want to store one handgun with one clip. As most people have mentioned, the battery is a little difficult to get in but it's not impossible. I use the AC adaptor but also use the batteries as a backup. It is very easy to program and my wife feels a lot more secure now that we have a baby on the way. It's easy to conceal and you can mount it if you deem necessary. Would definitely recommend this product as I looked at many different gun safes and this had the best reviews (and they proved correct).
Quick Draw While Putting Mind at Ease... January 20, 2010 Jorge L. Vazquez (cincinnati,oh) Good weight and sturdy feel to this safe. Tried the combination 30 times fast and opened flawlessly. Even did it in the dark and had no problems. I agreed with another reviewer about practicing every day until you feel confident of a quick and accurate access every time. I ordered this (the small) safe for my 357mag and only that with one box of 50ct rounds fits comfortably but thats ok and what I wanted. Can be mounted or stowed away is small spaces and is nice for travel in car trunk. The claim is that it can't be opened with hand tools and I have not tried to (because if I destroy it I'm out $100 plus) but "seems" that a good crowbar "might" with a little elbow grease get it open. If TOTAL security is what you want then a "real" safe is what you want but then you lose the quick portability that caused you to consider one of these.
Confidence Shaken January 11, 2010 Ian (Dothan, AL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought the GV2000 on 4-22-09. As of 01-10-10, it fails to lock. I dropped a 50 round box of 9mm ammo on it from about 8 inches by accident and the door popped open. I thought that perhaps I did not get the door latched properly but after securing the door I could smack the top of the vault with an open hand to spring the door open. My unit was still under warranty and the company has sent a replacement. However, my confidence in the product is shaken. The gun vault appears to work correctly, door latches and opens with keypad. If I had not found the defect by accident, who would have, one of my children? How long has it been defective without me being none the wiser? Now after reading the reviews here, I hope my replacement is not one of the ones that eats batteries. The batteries in mine have lasted over 8 months. In hindsight, I should have went ahead and spent the extra money on small safe that can be programmed to open by swiping a card or biometrics.
The batteries are fine December 11, 2009 John R. (Dayton, OH USA) Just picked one of these up, so I don't have any long term opinions yet but I wanted to comment on the batteries. People complain that the batteries are hard to get in and out, but really its no big deal at all. You just pull back the top foam and have to unscrew 2 small nuts to get the battery holder off. Put a small mirror inside and you'll see how its set up. Once you understand what you're dealing with its a breeze.
I've seen a youtube video where the guy just raps on the door with his knuckle and it opens. I tried that and it certainly doesn't work on mine. The safe comes set to the code 1234 and then you can just change it to your liking. Its opened first try every time. The keys are slightly mushy when you push them. A more definite action would be nice, but this is a small nit pick. The keys beep when you press them, but you can also turn the beep off. Because of the semi-mushiness of the keys and the fact that you sometimes aren't sure whether you officially pressed it or not I'll probably leave the beep on.
Overall it looks like a great small safe. If you're need more space then for 1 gun and some clips though I'd probably get the next size up with the shelf.
