Skew chisels designed by renowned turner and educator Alan Lacer are M2 High Speed Steel with ash handle. Available in two sizes: 5/8" and 1-3/8". Small skew chisel is 5/8" wide with 14" handle. Large skew chisel is 1-3/8" wide and has a 16" handle. Short point side is rolled completely for improved ease in planing spindle stock and for rolling beads. Long point side is kept flat, but with softened corners - an advantage in making such cuts as the V, shoulder, parting off, or pommels. Holmquist (South Windsor, CT USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful When doing larger diameter spindle work, the typical 3/4" skew just does not work, it is too easy to get a catch when dealing with spindles over 2" in diameter. That is where this skew really comes to the rescue! The only down side is that this skew is rather hard to sharpen. The blade is too big to fit in the Tormek skew jig, and the whole tool is just a bit too long for the Wolverine jig without modifying the guard around the grinding wheel. While I can freehand sharpen a smaller skew if necessary, a monster this size really needs some sort of jig to get a consistent scary sharp edge.
