Product Description All in one tool to clear brush, blaze trails, thin, trim, chop and prune. Introduced in 1941, Woodman's Pal has been used ever since by forest and land managers, surveyors, campers, horticultural and country gardeners. It was US military standard issue from WWII through to Desert Storm. Compact and superbly balanced, this hatchet/machete is an extension rather than a burden to your arm. Handcrafted in Pennsylvania.

Save money - Buy a machete November 30, 2008 Joe's Welding (East Texas United States) The Woodman's Pal is nice, and well built. Very solid! - But my $10 machete from WalMart tears through brush much faster, weighs less, requires less work, and I won't feel horrible if I leave it outside by mistake. I guess the Woodman's Pal looks wicked, though!
Excellant lane clearing tool January 9, 2008 Cory Fowler (Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great tool for the outdoorsman it does cut well and will slice through saplings with no problem, It will do most of the work of a machete, the only thing it has a problems with is cutting through briars without getting your arm or sleeve caught up in the briars. It will cut through them no problem just have your foot mashed down on the briars first then cut toward the base of the briars, this is where the hook cutting edge comes in handy for me. The steel is of good quality and will hold an edge for quite a while.
awkward because too heavy for its length May 26, 2006 J. Rosett (Lake County, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I can see how this might be a good tool for someone with stronger wrists but I found it awkward because it rather heavy and short. For me: 1. A machete is easier to use for brush because you can get a good long fast arc with it without using any muscle. 2. An ax is better for chopping wood because, although it is heavy, you hold it with both hands. 3. A hatchet is better for splitting and chopping small wood because it is lighter. It is also quite expensive.
Outstanding tool January 6, 2006 meheffe 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
As a forester, i use mine all the time. its all about balance. The balance allows this tool to be swung with the power of a big hatchet , yet cut with the clean cut that you would expect from a very sharp machete. with practice, you can cut saplings up to 2 inches in diameter with one swipe.
