Thanks to the inspiring words of mroeder I decided to obtain the Rake attachment.

This thing just collects leaves without trying. I waved it at the pile outside and, deadset, they sorted themselves out rather than face "the rake". If only I had the foresite to order a *handle* I would not have to use "the rake" on my hands and knees. Wonderful, just another fine quality product.
