4 out of 5 stars worth having   December 22, 2008

I bought this expecting nothing exciting but it is worth every dollar. It is well made and a great design. The blade opens and closes with clicks and locks in an open position. This isn't some dull pocket knife that you flick open so you do have to be careful about using it. The pry bar isn't the most amazing tool because its small and you cant get much leverage so don't expect to pull nails out of 2x4s. But as a knife a bottle opener a screw driver and a wire stripper it works great. I recommend it to any one. One other thing is that prior to buying it my biggest concern was that it was going to be this huge cumbersome thing on my keys (which I only have 3) but its great not too big and not bulky the flat aspect of it makes the length negligible.

1 out of 5 stars This Design was Stolen without Payment from Atwoodknives   November 21, 2008

If you like this design, you might want to check out the work of the craftsman whose tool design was copied without permission for this tool. Peter Atwood has been making a tool called the "Prybaby" that has an almost identical design minus the clumsily added knife blade.

Gerber has never contacted Mr. Atwood but just copied the design and made small modifications to evade patent issues.

Fortunately, Peter has a lot more ideas, though given how successful this one is, Gerber will probably copy the rest of them.

Buying this product is a great way to send your dollars to Chinese slave factories where stolen products are manufactured instead of supporting innovative American toolmakers. It's your choice.

3 out of 5 stars Version 2 may be a great tool.   November 14, 2008

Awesome look and feel. Having a nail puller around all the time can be surprisingly useful not only for nails but for removing screws and bolts that are stuck or aren't threading out, and for prying all kinds of things apart. This helps make this tool a very good complement to when you have you big tool with you also, where as most micro tools are pretty worthless when you also have your bigger/faster/nicer/more productive tool with you.

The big downside is the knife is way to hard to open and every copy of this took I have seen at least one of the screws on the inside of the knife are not in straight as if all of them were threaded badly. Also they use screws that have a crazy small what seems like a torx head so its not very easy to try and adjust anything (I have at least 50 torx bits and non are this small).

The drivers on this could also be better, I find that both the flat head and the philips head manage often to just barely not work well enough, maybe a micro socket driver would have been a better choice, but then you would have to worry about keeping track of bits.

I think exacto knifes are awesomely sharp and useful but tend to be a lot more expensive, not as common, and have a lesser variety then razor blades, but I have a ton of razor blades so the exacto part was probably what sold me on this item.

This tool also has some heft to it which can both be a postive since it has a solid feel at makes some tools like the nail puller more useful but not always something you want in your ultra portable tool.

If I was going to buy only one (and normally a person only carries one small tool) I would suggest getting Gerbers moneyclip/razor blade combo knife which is probably my favorite razorblade out their since it so light, nice looking, doesn't scream tool/knife, and is dirt cheap to get great blades for like the Stanley HD and the Lenox/Irwin blades. That tool has no other extra tools on it though, hopefully Gerber will combine these two tools so I can have more micro tools from them :)

4 out of 5 stars The blade is so tight I fear for my life   October 21, 2008

I bought myself one of these things to have a single, compact tool for a lot of common needs. I've only had it a couple days, but I've already used it as a screwdriver, a box opener, a pry tool and yes, to open a bottle.

The blade, though, is really, really sharp and really, really difficult to move in either of its locked positions. I haven't cut myself yet, but knowing what a pain it is to open and close the blade makes me more than a little shy to actually use that part of the tool.

5 out of 5 stars Great tool for the money   October 13, 2008

This is a very handy keychain tool and a great value for the money. I was a bit concerned about the xacto blade, but the locking mechanism seems to keep it very secure. It packs a lot of useful things into a small tool.
