Amazon.com Product Description The Fiskars super splitting axe splits large and thick blocks of wood with ease. The high-quality carbon steel blade has a PTFE coating, which reduces friction and helps facilitate the removal of the blade from wood. The 4-1/2-pound axe is smartly designed and easy to use. The 28-inch handle consists of a sturdy glass fiber-reinforced polyamide and is molded around the head to prevent loosening and separation. This ax is much lighter than ones with wooden handles and less likely to break at the neck. You can use the face of the ax as a sledge with Fiskars's splitting wedge for large blocks of wood. The ax comes complete with a plastic sheath for carrying and safe storage and includes a lifetime warranty.

Fiskars Splitting Axe November 13, 2008 Web_walker_1 (Indiana) This splitting axe is well worth the money that I spent on it. When I initially got it, I swung at the first few logs with my full force. I ended up splitting the log and burying the head of the axe completely in the ground. Green wood takes more effort and logs with knots in them can also take a couple of whacks to get them split, but for my purpose of providing wood for evening and weekend fireplace fires, this axe was perfect.
Excellent Firewood Splitter November 13, 2008 Iowa Chopper (Monroe, Ia) Dubious at first, I found the short (28") hollow synthetic handle to give good control and little or no contact 'shock' feedback to my hands and joints. The wedge design splits well, although the Fiskar is enough heavier than my antique 3 1/2 lb. single-bit axe that I am aware of the difference after an hour or so. After more than forty years of hand splitting with long-handled mauls and axes, I may have found my ideal splitting pardner! Tips: Use a chopping/splitting block, esp. if you're six foot or taller w/ long arms; Don't use a "Gonzo' power swing, you'll find a smooth overhand swing gives better control and accuracy; Position your body squarely with feet well apart for balance; And don't have anything within ten or twelve feet of your chopping block that is easily dented! For comparisons, I am splitting 12" to 16" green hickory (straight grain), seasoned oak, walnut, and various 'trash' wood of smaller sizes. Log lengths are 12" to 16", cut to accomodate my particular stove and arthritic joints.
Looks like a toy, splits like a champ October 30, 2008 C. Dube (Franconia, NH) I splintered too many handles before getting to my decision to purchase this axe. I passed this axe up in favor of something beefier when a friend said the Fiskar axes are great. I took a chance and I'm not disappointed. I admit, it looks like a toy, handle seems too short, and head must be too light, right. I have only split a few cords so far but some of the toughest wood- Iron Wood, knoted Golden Birch, went great. I love the fact that the head doesn't get stuck. I also like the fact that I can swing it all day, despite my preference for more head weight.
Very good October 28, 2008 Average handyman (TN) This axe/splitter is a very good item. The handle is shorter than I would like and when switching from a traditional maul it is very noticeable. The axe is made from good materials, the handle is strong and smooth, the axe head metal holds a very fine edge but it does nick very easily. I was amazed at how easily it split wood on the first swing. There are a few drawbacks, using this to strike a splitting wedge is not as effective as a heavier maul. Not only due to the lighter weight but the metal is not as soft as a traditional maul. Also, the handle is shorter than I would prefer. This being said, I am still pleased with my purchase.
splitting mall October 24, 2008 Larry E. Steenstry (Milwaukee, WI) I am surprised product was not lost in shipping! Very good product at great price. Product is nearing indestructible so product arrived in new condition despite the fact it was very, very poorly packaged for shipping.
