this did the trick October 3, 2008 E. Olson (Chicagoland) I found the receipt for the first one... it lasted 7 years. I guess I can spend twenty bucks for a new one every 7 years. Super easy replacement and no batteries to change.
Genie Gar door keypad replacement so simple September 24, 2008 M. Malaterre So simple to install, I did it myself. Plugged it in and viola it worked with no reset of password. Could not find locally thanks Amazon for carrying product.
SO QUICK...SO EASY TO INSTALL September 3, 2008 Bill in AZ I was amazed at how timely I received the product. I ordered online on Friday afternoon and it was delivered (after shipping cross-country) Monday. It came with user-friendly instructions and was working within minutes!
Genie KEP-1 replacement keypad and ribbon. August 1, 2007 Phil (Minnesota) Replacement Genie KEP-1 keypad and ribbon work perfectly. I just removed the four screws holding the initial keypad and ribbon, unplugged the ribbon from the control unit, and installed the new keypad and ribbon. The keypad combination did not need to be reset. Initial keypad and ribbon lasted nine years exposed to Minnesota weather, which is excellent.
Weatherproofing needed November 19, 2006 Michael Kelley (Portland, OR USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had an old keypad that died after a winter storm. Water entered the keypad, corroding the bottom row of blister buttons. When I replaced it, I applied a bead of grey caulk between the button face membrane and the frame on the front of the unit and between the ribbon cable and frame on the back. Hopefully, this will prevent a similar failures in the future. Overall, it's not a very robust design and I would recommend placing it in a weather-protected location if possible.
