removal problematic July 18, 2010 Trish 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've just finished trying to remove my 3M window seal. Prior to today I was very happy with this product, it really helped with drafts. Following today however, I doubt I will ever use it again. As I tried to remove the tape from the window sills I discovered that two outcomes were most likely: 1) the tape pulled away from the adhesive leaving a sticky and dust attracting goo behind (that has been really had to get off) or, 2) it peeled away the paint. A disappointing ending to what had been a great use of this product.
Great way to save money on heat April 23, 2010 Sonoma's Davey (Guerneville, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Back in the old days, my dad followed the autumn ritual of getting the storm windows out from the basement, and mounting them on the house to insulate the windows against the coming cold weather. This plastic film is much easier to use, works better, and you do it all from inside the house. The double-faced tape holds the plastic in place -- it covers your entire window. Then use a hair dryer to heat the film, shrinking it to fit tightly, leaving an air gap of a few inches between the film and the window glass. It's this air gap that serves as the insulation, and it's very effective. I have 4 windows near a couch; before using this, nobody ever used the couch in the winter because the draft from the windows was unpleasantly cold. Now the draft is gone, and I'm saving on the heating bill as well. Oh, and when spring returns, you just peel the plastic off and throw it away -- couldn't be easier.
Here are my 2 tips for best results. First, make sure the double-sided tape is securely stuck to the window frame, and then be sure to peel back the top protecting part of the tape to expose the 2nd sticky side of the tape. Then, apply the plastic first to one of the top corners of the window, let the plastic drape down to cover the window, and then use scissors to cut the extra plastic off around the edge of the window frame. If you allow about an inch of overlap all around the window, it will be easier to get the plastic stuck securely to the sticky tape.
Responsible seller April 14, 2010 T. C. Chang (TX, US) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I received the package not in a perfect condition, that happens and OK to me. But the tape in the kit was missing therefore I contacted the seller. They responsed me within one day and fully refunded me. That's what a good seller shall be and I'm glad I met a responsible one. About the product, ummm, it's Spring not the cold time to apply, report you later.
Completely Satisfied April 11, 2010 J. Spare This 5-window package was more than enough to cover two very large window openings, each one consisting of 4 side-by-side metal casement windows. Old style casement windows are notoriously poor for losing heat and creating drafty conditions. This product produced a very noticeable improvement in room temperature after it was installed this past winter.
I found that when I removed the film this spring (to be able to open the windows) that the double sided tape peeled off very cleanly leaving no noticeable stickiness or residue. The surfaces are ready to apply again next year. Other people have found it helpful to leave the film up year round for protection against hot air in the summer as well.
I believe the best way to install this product is to place the double sided tape alone the outside edge of the window frame on the top and sides of the window and then across the bottom side of the window sill. If there is no window frame and you have to apply the tape to the inside of a window opening, then I am guessing it might be a little more difficult to get the plastic to stretch tight and not pull away from the tape.
All in all this was a very effective product.
Great product March 15, 2010 Holly Red (Nederland, TX USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This product was easy to install and has made a huge difference in the temperatures of the rooms. Stay with the name brand. It is worth the little extra money. You will make up that money in saved energy costs.
