Simple corded operation means you never have worry about misplacing a cordless handset, and the phone's sturdy construction means it's designed to last. You can place the base on a convenient surface or easily mount it on the wall, saving on counter space. A 12-number memory dial feature lets you store your most frequently called numbers (up to 21 digits)--nine speed dials plus three emergency one-touch dials that are easy to program. A directory card is provided to help you keep track of all your memory dial settings. A redial feature lets you quickly call the last outgoing number (up to 32 digits). Three ringer settings (off, low, and high) and three handset volume levels permit customization. Switchable tone and pulse dialing methods are also provided. The illuminated keypad helps you operate the phone even in darkly lit areas, while a prog/mute button on the handset lets you hear the other party while muting your side of the conversation. Great phone for the price September 23, 2009 J. S. Green THIS is the Trimline phone that I remember from past years! I had bought an AT&T "Trimline" phone that was really poor - it didn't have the features that I expected, and remembered. I bought one of these in white color for my wife, and then found that it was so good that I ordered the black model for myself.
This phone has a backlit screen (excellent for night-time calls), powered by the phone line - no batteries required. The light intensity isn't very high, but is readable in the dark. I found the quick dial use to be fine, although I was a bit surprised that one needs to program in the emergency number (isn't 911 standard?), but maybe some people want to call their relatives in an emergency or something. I have mine wall mounted, although the unit works either wall or desk.
The phone is handsome, and the features (handset and ringer volume, quick dial, etc) work well.
The only drawback is that the handset is fairly large. I am 6' tall with big hands, and it fits me fine, but if you are purchasing for a smaller hand you might need a different model.
Beyond reliable September 20, 2009 Beth Bennet (Illinois) People say this is basic and reliable, and we can attest to that. We're purchasing a replacement for the Trimline 210 that lasted for 26 years! The old one in the kitchen was the main phone that everyone went to first. It survived the handset accidentally being dropped countless times and has worked in every power outage. No bells and whistles, just a reliable, sturdy product that does what it should.
Not as good as my old Conair phone August 29, 2009 R. A. Pennington (Coos Bay, OR United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Sound quality was down and keypad lighting was inferior compared to my old Conair phone. I also found the electronic tones to indicate a ringing phone to not be to my tastes. I guess AT&T forgot how to make a basic phone. Folks, go to a garage sale and find the phone you like for $1 or less. The only positives I have to say about the phone is that it looks nice in shiny black and that the part of the headset that sits by my ear is fairly comfortable in the "old classic phone" way. Two nice things to say means 2 stars.
Why oh why did Conair quit making phones?
Simple & Reliable Telephone June 15, 2009 Miss Margaret Picky (NYC) The troubles with cell phones not working after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and the power blackout in 2003 made clear the advantage of a corded land-line telephone in emergencies. There have also been repeated problems with expensive combination telephone/answering machines where one stops working so the whole thing has to be replaced. The frequent and annoying static on various cordless telephones was the last straw so I ordered this telephone over four years ago and have really enjoyed using it.
The backlit dial pad is nice and the easy access to controls for ring and handset volume is great. I don't use the memory dial or emergency buttons but they could be useful if someone has trouble dialing numbers or uses a calling card for long distance. You don't need any instructions to use the basic features, just plug it in, lift off the base and dial, which is a nice change from fancy electronics that take an hour to set up. The handset itself is well-balanced and feels substantial in the hand without being too heavy. The buttons have the right amount of "give".
Overall, this is a nice little telephone, simple and reliable.
A great accessory is this little thing-a-ma-jig that keeps the cord from getting tangled: AT&T 91078 Cord Detangler - 3 Pack (Clear)
A fine buy May 13, 2009 Simple soul (Mandeville, LA United States) I can hear the phone ring (others I cannot), and the speaker volume is fine. Altogether, a fine telephone.
